Which has a better chance of fitting 18x8 +45 or 18x7.5 +42?

With a comptech drop.

Thanks!

Eh...wrong answer....18x7.5 +42 is closer to the stock offset than 18x8 +45.

18x8 +45
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 3mm LESS
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 23mm

18x7.5 +42
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 7mm MORE
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 19mm

The strut housing is not an issue, it's the outside edge. Stick with 18x7.5 +42

NSXNEXT is correct, besides the 18 x 8 with a +45 is NOT an option with a Comptech drop. There is no way that you won't have rubadubdub problems on the top of your outer fender lips. Go with the 18 x 7.5 +42 or better yet, find another 8" wheel with a +48 or +50 offset.

I had 19x8 +45 w/235/35/19.. I have a comptech drop. All I had to do was cut the tab. I had no rubbing with 3 people in the rear...

Interesting. We know the offset makes the +42 stick out 3mm further. But the question is what difference does the extra 1/2 inch of rim width have on the width of the shoulder. Obviously it's not 1 for 1.

Like I said, I rub with 18x7.5 with a 42 offset on stock suspension. I think either way you will have to trim/cut/roll the rear fenders.

Hemants, no two wheels and tires are created the same, especially across different manufacturers, even when the specified measurements are the same, because of different manufacturing tolerances. It is worse still when it comes to tires. I have seen different makes of tires having the same xxx/xx/xx size numbers but have different actual tread face width measurements, the widest and the narrowest differed by half a inch. This is very significant when it come to rubing or no rubing.

So some people with 18x8 +45 will not rub, but some will rub like crazy. Unless there is someone out there that has installed exactly the same make, model, and size of your wheel/tire combo, there is no definite answer to your rub or no rub question.

What Edward says is true. The only other thing I can add to this:

Why take the chance of getting a low offset wheel in the first place? Do it right the first time, and you'll never have to worry about rubbing. Go with a low offset wheel, your chances of rubbing will be much higher. Get a high offset wheel and you don't have to worry about anything.

I've read a lot of posts where people get cool wheels with lower offset, and say they had to trim rear tab or roll the fenders. Just more hassle IMHO. Proper fitment of wheels mean you don't have to trim the tab or roll the fenders. If you know for a fact that a certain low offset wheel and tire combination will not rub, other guys have this combo and they don't rub (no trimming tab, no rolling the fender), then by all means go for it. But if no one has your exact combination of wheel/tire, you're setting yourself up for some major grief. Trimming the rear tab and/or rolling the fender should never be required if you have the right setup.

I hear what you are saying Patrick but the Universe of choices is not infinitely granular.

The wheels that I want are 18x7.5 +42!!! (Axis Se7en Mod). From what I've read, trimming the tab is all that is required if I get 225/40/18 tires.

But I've also seen some 18x8 +45 wheels as well.

The same reason you went with Stone Headers vs Comptech... $$$$$

Some people are willing to deal with the extra work to save $$$

I know but they don't make those wheels in that spec!

I can live with a trimmed bumper tab but I don't want to mess with the metal bumper.

Rolled fenders tend to rust very quickly.

Agreed. But as long as people realize that going the "cheap" route will most like give rubbing problems and they are willing to deal with it, then all the more power to them.

What really gets me tied up in a knot is when people ask for offset advice and not take it, and then later complain that they get rubbing problems. They could have avoided the whole offset problem in the first place if they had listened to the correct advice when given.

A good reason why you want to get proper fitting wheels in the first place: to avoid the very real potential problem you just mentioned (assuming trimming the rear tab is insufficient). And don't forget if you want to add a camber kit later on, you better make sure to take this into account.

But it is your choice and your decision. Just make sure you make an informed one.
