Post Has anyone swapped an '01 TL for a TL-S?

Since I only have 2400 miles on my TL, I figure I have a window of opportunity to do this before the hit I'll have to take gets too big. Has anyone swapped an '01? If so, what was the differential you paid? Also, did you pay tax only on the differential?

Unhappy

You will probably lose at least $4000. Price you pay to trade 1 year. There were good deals on left over 01's in Kansas City (even 1 or 2 left). Hard for someone to pay much for an 01' when they could buy brand new at under invoice. Been there done that though!!

Ruf87,

I'm still unclear how much you had to go out of pocket. If you don't mind, can you list: (1) the price you paid for your TL; (2) the trade in value you got for your TL; (3) the price you paid for your TL-S. Also, if either the TL or TL-S had navi. You can PM me if you want.

Thanks.

I did.

Got my TL on Oct 29th. Had 4500 miles on it.
Got my TL-S on March 30th.

I lost $2000 on the TL, but only got $500 off on the TL-S. So you could say I lost a total of $3,500 because I was able to get $1,500 off the TL.

Considering everything, it was worth it in the long run because the TL-S had enough of what I wanted. Better looks, handling, performance, in-dash CD changer and memory seats. All worth the little extra $$$s.

I also had a new TL to drive for 5 months so it wasn't a total $3,500 delta. Say it a new TL costs about $300 a month to drive. That's $1,500. Now subtract that from $3,500 and I'm really out $2,000.

Justify it any way you want to, but make sure you really want sportyness over luxury. From a ride and seat feel that is.

Let see??

$26,500 for the 2001 TL on 10/00
I believe I got this deal because the color wasn't one of the hot ones and it had been on their lot for over a month. Don't know why, but they would give me a better deal on that one than the Silver or Black.

I got $24,500 in trade for it towards the TL-S. DWP w/Ebony.

Then I got $500 off the TL-S

Neither had the NAVI.

One other comment though. I started beating up the dealer the minute I found out that the TL-S was just a wet dream. Before I bought the 2001 TL, I grilled them heavily about the up and coming changes for 2002. Specifically about a TL-S option, suspension and new front end look. They told me nothing major other than memory seats and in dash CD. I went in about once a month to let them know if a TL-S option came out I would be camping on their door step. The last time was the end of March and low and behold, the TL-S was already on the lot.

They met me before I hit the front door with a set of keys for a Silver one sitting right up front. Beautiful was my first thought. After the drive I knew I would never be happy with the TL and bought a DWP w/ebony that day.

I still love it, but I'm really looking into some mods over time. Starting simple and then more if the right parts start showing up. If they don't, then I'll just have to wait for my boys to get a little older. That'll give me an excuse for the wife to start working on my old 64 Malibu SS.

Tell the dealer that you would have really wanted the TL-S and they should have treated you better. Good luck.
