Hard Drive Nav Upgrade

Few questions regarding the lack of backup by acura to this system...supposedly support for this technology stopped in 2000!!

I just want to know what the possibilities are for those of us stuck on a 1999 map....as you know the world has grown a lot since then!!...by my NAV sys, my girlfriend lives 15miles inland of unchartered and undiscovered "white" territory!

Solutions??
1)kinda searched and came to the conclusion that any other DVD systems is basically a Plug-N-Play...better, faster and sexier
2)Update Current HD (hard drive)....BUT two of the dealers i spoke to said that there's been many cases that the hb update can result in the hd crashing constantly becuase it occupied too much memory
3) what say you?

1. true, list of applicable honda/acura dvd units on my web site

2. no such problem exists

3. go to dvd if you can afford it, or replace the disk with compact flash drive(s) with the last release Dec 2002 if you cannot

get an Acura DVD system off Ebay - be sure its only for the 2nd gen TL or CL (not the new TL). They plug right up where the HD system was - great upgrade for sure and easy

1) I want to say Paul - you are the man. I found your site and it was the first one I have seen that made any sense of the HD problem I am having with my TL.

2) It seems that the Compact Flash is the way to go - because it would be faster - cheaper and less likely to damage from use.

3) I have looked on Ebay and can not find any DVD units... only DVDs. If anyone sees one posted - please let me know.

4) Does anyone know where I can download the Map information on the net? My dealer told me he would upload the files to the CF card for free - but if I could find it on the net I could get other regions - and then just switch out cards... that would be cool. Or - is it possible to get a larger card and hold more information on it?

Thanks to everyone for the help

Cool? Switching cards every time you go between regions? I doubt the software can handle more than one region/card. Not to mention the data on them is old. Stick with one region you spend the most time in while you wait for a DVD unit to appear.
