Unhappy GS400 encounter

Not that this is surprising but I was a little disappointed that I could not gain any ground on him once we hit around 90mph. I was closing in on the exit ramp but once the road straightened out I floored it and I guess he did and I was gaining a little but once we got around 90 I might have even lost a few feet up to about a buck 05 when I gave up.

My car just felt like a dog up there even though I had revs left. I know the headers would alleviate that but I'm not really interested in top end speed.

Call me crazy but I think the GS400 might have the added benefit of a v8 engine. I'd have to say you did pretty well gaining on him til 90.

Don't even think about playing with a gs400 up top. That's where their V8 shines through.:wow: But up to ~100 should be a good race.

It's called torque. The V8 has quite a bit more than our V6. From a light, it would be give and take with who wins. At freeway speeds, though, he with the most torque usually wins.

did that Gs400 happened to be a white one with 19inch volk racing rims and black widow kit?

if it was.... it's got quiet a few mods under the hood...basic intake and exhaust..plus the torque converter (takes off like a whore)

Usually you probably shoudn't waste your gas messing w/ a GS 400...it'll smoke you...GS300 on the other hand would be a much better race...you should BEAT it!!!!!!!!

It is not as much torque issue as gearing. If he caught you of guards then at 90 mph you were in the 5th gear. TL-S will down-shift to 4th but not 3rd. 4th gear is too tall on this car. Generally you have to be in VTEC range to move fast on TL-S and you should do your best to stay in VTEC.

ok, since i own both cars (tls and gs400) i thihnk i can say a fair share on this without getting flamed (that much...)

do NOT try to mess with gs400, they will eat you if you really care to play with you. and i mean in any case, from dead stop, rolling, freeway speed, or even high end.

the gs400 has just tons more torque than what the tls can handle, 310lb-ft of torque compared to 232 of that on the tls. even after the powertrain loss you think the tls has a chance even the gs4 weighs around 300lb more? and also, it's a v8, it gives you back everything you lack with the v6, i didn't believe it but now i am convinced.

from stop the extra torque will kill the tls. the gs4 also has wider tires so better traction. from rolling, same results. and at any freeway speed below 80, same thing. even if the tls can down shif to 3rd the gs4 can still just floor it and it will down shift as well and will eat the tls. at anything after 90 you guys know when it's a dead story, v8 rules.

i had the tls for a yr before i got the gs4. before i got the gs4 i thought damn the tls is pretty neat, fast and nice and it sounds good. every time i wanna past people it's still managable. however after i got the gs4 i finally knew what it means by ruling the road. with the same pressure at the gas i would be pushing myself in the seat, and a slight press on the freeway and i easily find myself doing over 90 (very dangerous for tickets...) and i hardly find cars that i can't pass with ease on the freeway.

and before you say it, yes i have raced with a tls before. i don't have anything under the hood (only suspension mods now) and i don't know what he has. from stop he floored his car before i realized he wanted to mess with me. well i responded and before the end of second he was looking at my gs400 emblem again. it's that sick.

oh and btw, the tls on the other hand will eat the gs3.... i think the weight of the car is just too much for the 6 cylinders to handle.... 0-60 time of around mid 7, go figure....

V8 + 300hp = TLS beater @ speeds over 90 period. We have the power to stay with a GS400 below those high speeds, but over 90 is exactly where the 300 hp shines.

I saw a WALD GS400. I was in my ride and he just took off after another GS400. Man I just don't mess with those things.
