Great results: '00TL Blackstone Oil Analysis @ 160,000 miles..

Thought you guys would like to know this, an '00 TL-P with I/H/E/P and 160K miles using a K&N filter the whole time...the results were outstanding. For 100,000 miles I used Mobil 1 5W30 changed every 5K and then went to Amsoil 5W30 still changed every 5K miles since, with no real reason other than to try it. Their comments after I asked "Will I make it to 300K miles? " (as follows) "Charles we can't tell you if you will make 300,000 miles or not, but judging from the wear metals your engine is making at roughly the halfway point, we would think you have a good shot at it. Your averages show typical wear metals for an oil in use 3200 miles, but your sample was in use 5000 miles. We found all wear averages at or below normal and found them to be in the correct balance with no obvious problems. Air and oil filtration look OK. Stay at your 5000 mile change interval."

In their readout, I can see the Amsoil had still one third more detergent in it than the averages listed, and that the 3.2 let NO fuel, water or antifreeze into the oil. And I've beat on this engine pretty good, so I feel real good about the toughness of our engines.

Nice. Did they see any adverse affect from the UR crank pulley? That was a big bone of contention.

None at all, all metal wear percentages were half of normal, and that on oil in use 5K miles.

Hopefully I'll be seeing you guys in the 150k+ mile category as well. It has been 2 years and 4 months since time of purchase and so far I've put in 45k miles.

BUT...unlike you guys, I'm using Amsoil 5w30 with an oversized filter changing it out every 7,500 miles. Hopefully I'm on the right track.

Hey guys. I just changed my oil about a week ago, and put in Castrol 10W30. I've noticed that alot of ya'll use 5W30. What's the difference? Should I change to 5W30? What brand?

RedLine or Amsoil are popular high end oils.
