theres no way im paying for anything.. wasn't my fault. They did mail me the check for $4700 but that doesnt mean Im gna cash it and be done with... helll no. The car has been torn down now, and the final real quote is $7900 from the first shop I took it to. That quote was faxed to the insurance company and this week I'm gna be fighting for that. Lol I'm not jus gna be short $4000 and not do anything about it.

wait a sec. they give you a lowball check hoping you'll just take the money

i thought you give the car and the check to the bodyshop and the shop squeezes the rest outa the insurance.

Are you going to have that shop fix the car? If so, when you tell them that it's the insurance that's paying for it,the shop can get on contact with them and be able to take care of the rest with any need of you to hassle

also be careful some insurance's will only pay for so many days of a rental car even though it is not your fault, after times up you have to pay for a rental yourself.

thas exactly whats happening now... theyre contacting them... only prob is that its still very slow. I already have had the rental car for 5 days. They said its only for 10 days, i gta talk to them about this.

This is such BS to deal with honestly, I thought since its not my fault at least ill be taken care of, I have to keep fighting for the smallest things.

My last car my bf drove my car into another car when i was at home.... the insurance company considered the car to be totaled they said it was 7k in damages and only worth 3,700... I didnt think it was that bad... the front was smashed in because he had hit a 7 ton government van and hit the hitch on the back... So i took the check even tho it wasnt anythinnnggg but at least i got my tl out of it.... but i think insurance companies just try to conisder any car that is a little older totaled so they dont have to pay more to fix it.. they give yu a little check to walk away someway happy...

Make sure yu complain about those neck n back injuries yu can get a lot from that... i was in a back seat accident n went to 2 chiropracter appointments n my friends insurance company gave me 1k n i wasnt even in that much pain just a few bruises get yur passengers hooked up...lool

Yea,auto insurancr stuff is generally a slow process.
Thats a 7+ day repair, so yea, make sure you get a hold of them and make sure theyll cover your rental until your car is done. The body shop should be able to back you up on that request, but if for some reason the insurance tries to deny you, you can always ask for help from your insurance and have them hassle the other guys for you.

Last time I totalled my Civic, it took the insurance a month and a half to mail me the check. In the mean time, I had a bright yellow Doge Caliber for a rental for 10 days. The rest of the time? I had to beg my uncle to lend me one of his babies for about two days until my aunt ran her car into a pole. So I just asked my uncle to lend me 7g's and bought my tl.

As for fixing a car, I just brought my car to the shop and had them deal with the insurance. I just had my car fixed for 4600 bucks for running over a baby deer. They did take about three days to send the check for the difference; their est. $3800 vs the $4600 of the actual cost.

and remember that YOU are the customer to the bodyshop not the insurance, also normally bodyshops aren't open/working on the weekends so you need time for that too. the insurance might be more willing to let you have a rental car if trade out that saturn vue for a shit box chevy Cobalt (better than no car)

ok so another update... They finally told me their decision. The car is totaled for sure. Now theyre sending it to the total department of the insurance company (I swear I feel like I talk to the same 3 people making me think they have tons of departments). So Monday is probably when Ill figure out how much theyre gna gimme for my car.

Also, I plan on buying it back from the insurance (I put so much work in this car)... anybody have any idea, like a ball park figure of how much theyll sell it to me for?

Thanks,
Ace

what a pain - hope this all works out for you. His Insurance should cover the rental for as long as you need it (or until it is totaled). So start looking now in the Black Market, maybe you can pick one up there !!!

also depends on how long ago they totaled your cl ago for how much it is worth. and cars are worth different amouts in different markets, also different insurances will total out a car at differnet percentages of a car value
example: car is worth $10,000 (easy number for math) isurance A would total at 70%, so it only needs $7,000 worth of damage to total out, but insurance B would total it out at 85% or $8500 worth of damage

it was 3 years ago, and car was estimated at little over 10k, which is more than his TL worth right now, before the crash. Most insurance companies will total the car when repairs exceed 50% of total value

My TL is worth $10,500 right now according to KBB. The damages came out to around $8000 and the insurance did total it.... so its def not "Far from total". And yes it was 35 mph, when I asked the guy who hit me he confirmed this. It was a truck, meaning it was much higher than my car, so nothing got ripped off like it looks like on ur car... but that in no way means that there isnt much damage.

ok so the offical numbers from the insurance company r in. They are giving me $9500 for my car, they said they use nada.com an not kbb.com. Buying back the car would be $2700. The thing is though that I owe about 7K on the car... so finally I will have $600 after everything and would own the wrecked car. I dont have money to fix the car on my own right now and would probably be done overtime.... What do you think? Worth keeping? I mean i love the car and know it inside out (put a lotta work in it) and it runs fine.

Get all ur parts of the car ... buy another type s tl 03 for about 9500 or less and have a fixed car ... thats what i would do ... or just buy another car all together and sell all ur cars on the BM ... but since u know this car pretty well, it would probs be to ur benefit to buy another tl

i guess everybody missed the part where i said that i owe 7000 on the car, and not have any more money than the amount they will be giving me. Can't get a decent car for 9500-7000 = $2500.

I am thinking if i keep the car, im not gna have a car payment which is a big plus. If i go about getting another car then ill be back to paying monthly (which i would like to avoid). To be honest I think im gna end up keeping the car. Any ideas on whats the minimum I would have to get fixed for it to pass inspection? Im gna talk to the bodyshop about that 2moro (2day theyre closed).

Thanks to everybody for the input btw... appreciate it.

did they not add money for ANY of the mods, you proably just have to show them the receipts (like the intake, im spacer, headers, pulley, ipod adapter or the sub)

wow dude that certainly sucks. I was in the same position you were in at the beginning of this year. I was driving a 2000 Dodge Stratus on my way to the hospital to go to work and some doctor I work with rear ended me bad. She was going 35mph and didn't realize I stopped and slowed down and boom. I got a minor neck strained and she had to pay for the damages and everything. I got $5500 out of the Dodge Stratus and I then went to my public auto auction and managed to find the beauty 1999 Acura TL-P with 80K on it for $4000.

Here is what she damaged:

And she hit me so hard that she bent the frame on the car and the insurance had no choice but to pronounce it as a total car.

so does that mean they will pay the tow bill to and from the shop/your house where you will get your parts uninstalled and take the car afterwards and still pay you for the car
also pay for the parts to be uninstalled and pay for the replacement stock parts in case you don't have them anymore
OTHERWISE THAT IS

I think you're better off paying off the car with the money and not have a car payment.

Even if you were able to get the car fixed for cheaper than the original quoted price, you're still gonna have to put in several grand out pocket to fix it AND you'll still end up with a rebuilt titled car that's been heavily repaired.

Might as well get a couple grand more and get a car that is still clean and hasn't had a new floor/rear body panel/frame rail replaced.

If you are set on keeping the car and repairing it anyways, I doubt the shop is gonna want to fix it for less and even if they do, I doubt they'll be able/want to do it for a lot less- even if they use aftermarket/used parts.

So I think your best bet would be to find a body tech that does work on the side and see if maybe you can get away with straightening the floor and maybe even the rear body panel and only replacing the absolutely critical stuff (frame rail most likely).
Again, it can be done, but when it's all set and done, the car is not going to be as safe as it was before, since the crumble zones are already wasted. So you better hope you don't get rear ended hard again. Not to mention even finding a tech that is willing to do the work AND do a descent job all while keeping the cost down for you.

So in short- I say just cut your losses and pull as many good parts off the car- sell those and save your money for another car.

thanks for the suggestions everybody.

I have finally decided to keep the car. I think a paid off car like i have now is better than a car with a lien on it. Which is great for me because no more car payments, which helps caus i dnt have a job right now. Im thinking of getting it fixed over time. It drives fine right now... just looks like crap. Love the car still so I am eventually gonna get it lookin sexy again.

Thanks,
Ace
