Is it a good Idea to replace tranny for 2nd time

Hello friends,

I bought my TL last week. I went through the service reciept, and I found out that he replaced the trany at 94k miles. Know I have 126k miles. I called Acura to see if they are going to replace it again because the car shakes a bit when I a 20MPH and hits into the 2nd gear.

What you guys thinks is it a good idea? The new tranny will have another 30k miles warrenty by acra!!!

I would like to get you guys oppions.

thanks

Latter replacement transmissions will have incorporated more and more recent fixes to try to cure the problem(s). So the latter the better.

I wouldn't pay Acura to replace it. Find a local tranny shop to do it and save lots of $$$. Remember the tranny warranty is only to 100,000 miles.

You didn't mention how much Acura was going to charge you. If they were paying for it because it was under some kind of warranty, then I would do it, but if they weren't going to cover the charges, then I would look elsewhere.

Well, the tranny is cover by Acura for another 4k miles. It was replace in 04/2005. When I bought the car, a week ago, I check with local Acra dealership and they said that the tranny is still under warrenty for another 4k miles. So, having this warrenty, I would like take advantage of it and replace the tranny again because only then Acra will give me another 36k miles warranty.

I told to them yesterday and a tech test drove it and it showed no sign of slipage or problems. The tranny runs good, I just want take advantage it.

what are you oppions.

thanks

You sure the Transmission was replaced on 04/2005? I thought they revised the tranny fix in February of 2005?

Hmm. You're the first person with the new revised fix that I've read about on the forums... doesn't make me feel any better since my tranny will get replaced next week.

But yeah, might as well get it replaced if it's under warranty and your transmission feels off.

If it vibrates while shifting INTO second gear, it could be a shudder problem, and yes, that would be a transmission problem. Or, you could have a mount problem.

Did you ever buy something that just didn't work right to begin with? Same can be had from a rebuild even with new parts.

i've always sworn by "if it aint broke, dont fix it". trannys are either good, or they are bad, theres no in between. if they're gonna break, they're gonna break.. if yours goes after the 100k warrany, acura may goodwill you into a new one like they did with me at 107k. good luck with it though!

Rebuilds have an extra oil passage for 2nd gear

I'm on my 2nd tranny right now TL 02. They said the 2nd gear wasn't get enough oil and a new passage was installed. They can see if yours is any good by checking the coloration of the 2nd gear (meaning high heat= BAD). I'm thinking about putting in a tranny cooler to help out even further. My warranty is good for 160,000 Km. or 6yrs. Not sure if you can buy an extended warranty? But if you have the coverage now use it and ask about the mod I'm talking about.
Hope this shade some new light...Jeff

yes thats teh oil jet kit. Thats for a completly different issue that no one here has had. A tranny cooler will do nothing to help the 3rd gear problem that effects us all
