Getting sick of my AEM V2

I drove my friend's stock type-s last night and it really made me want to get rid of the AEM V2 in my '02 TL-P (and swap out these god awful TL-P stock rims+tires). It reminded me that loud doesn't mean fast. I had become so used to the sound of my car, that i totally forgot what a stock TL sounds like. Sure, the CAI sounds sorta cool under WOT, but it makes my car a LOT louder, even at idle. It kinda makes me feel like one of those riced out civics on the road, that are loud as hell but go no where fast. :'(

No real point to this post.. just felt like I hadda share.

Did you notice a HP/TQ gain at all?? Or just sound? According to their page it's the "best intake on the market, even better than their regular CAI." I'm debating on to get this or the CT Icebox...

To be honest, I couldn't really feel very much of a gain... The tires seem to squeal a lot more though when I'm driving hard.

Does the Ice box cause the engine to sound louder? I wanted to put a CAI in my 02 TL-S but thought it would cause the engine to get to loud. The reason I got the TL in the first place was it was a classy car with some nuts, I thing a loud car is kinda played out. I hate seeing a piece of crap 4 cyl with some muffler on the back which makes it sound like a 350.

The Icebox is the quietest. It does add some noise, but it isn't real loud or anything. I can hardly tell that I've got the Icebox. The sound you get from a normal CAI like the AEM or Injen is really sweet though ... Makes me jealous sometimes

For the most part, you'll never notice the Comptech Icebox though. If you're looking for the performance gain without the noise, I'd definitely recommend the Icebox.

get the icebox homie...I'm the same way as you...I got annoyed of the loud intakes after a while...after research I went w/ the IceBox and I couldn't be happier. It sounds basically stock with a little bit of a deeper tone to the engine note (well, the headers help add to that sound too )

IMHO you shoulda got the Injen CAI......barely audible under normal driving conditions, and very loud under WOT.

I don't know if it's just the AEM V2, but the goddamn HUMMING noise it makes at idle is pretty intolerable. I get woken up on the wkends by it when my dad takes my car out in the morning. (my bedroom window is usu. open and it faces the driveway) The loud hissing is also really annoying when you have the accelerator pressed lightly.

Does the Injen+Icebox not have these problems?

I think the Injen CAI is also noisy from 1000 to 2500 rpm. I'm a little bit sick of that sound (Hzzzzz.......).
But I love when is WOT, just so loud!!!
Would changing to K&N filter help reducing the noise in normal driving conditions?
Help...

A short ram makes more noise than a CAI or the Icebox. So if you want maximum noise, short ram is the way to go.

The Icebox will also "hiss" when you shut off the car, but it doesn't make any noticeable hiss to me at idle.

You just compared a riced out 4-banger to the music of a small-block 350?

350 might not be the best-sounding V8 out there, but it sure sounds better than some buzzy 4-bangers.

A Lot louder, even at idle? It's a mild humming sound, not THAT loud. Also, the "hissing" sound isn't very loud at all. I notice it if I'm driving with the windows down and stereo turned way down or off. Man, you come across as one WHINEY person. I don't think you'd be happy with the icebox either. If it makes any noticeable sound over stock, I'm sure you'll complain about that too. You must be one of those people that aren't happy unless they're complaining. I couldn't me happier with my AEM V2. Granted, I wish it gave the TL a larger power gain, but it'll do as well, if not better than any other intake. Oh, and the sound it makes is a far cry from sounding like a "riced out civic."

yea but jay, everybody has different tastes...

not everybody will agree that the AEM v2 or AEM CAI for that matter sound good, it's all personal opinion. Plus, maybe his was installed improperly, meaning louder hissing or what not. Who knows

Sound really doesn't mean shit to me... I'm mainly looking for gains, and it seems like Comptech makes the best quality stuff out there.. Anyone disagree with me? I've NEVER heard anyone complain about Comptech...

I was saying that if you have a 350 engine and it makes that noise then it's all good but like the punk down my street who drives a 3 door saturn and it sounds like a airplane when he drives it. It's friggin retarted to drive a 4 cyl which sounds like a 350 with open headers.

Jeez, you need to relax. I drive with the windows down 90% of the time, which is probably why the hissing gets to me. If I drove with the windows up, I guess I'd feel differently. The humming sound is definitely not "mild".. esp. if you're in a semi-enclosed space (pulling up to a drive-thru). Hell, I can hear it from inside people's houses with the house windows+doors shut. Maybe I do have an improper install. :sqnteek:

hey, just a quick question about the comptech icebox, does the filter inside of the icebox need to be oiled like normal CAI's? If so about how often should you oil it?

Yes it needs to be oiled. Comptech recommends at every oil change or when it looks dirty. For me, I replaced mine for the first time last month (didn't bother oiling it up) and I've had the Icebox for over a year. The filter looked fined.

The Comptech filter can only be oiled once however and then it needs to be replaced.

I decided to buy a K&N filter instead that can be re-used 2 times instead of only once. I think its K&N RU-2590 that fits the Icebox. Its a bit of a tight fit, so you need to loosen the metal ring on the filter completely and then stretch the rubber a little to get it onto the icebox, but it fits fine, just takes some effort to get it on there.

You can buy the replacement filter from AJusa.com... Checkout this thread over on Acura-CL.com for more info: Link
