Getting Dealer Service Done on Saturdays
My dealer (David McDavid Acura of Plano, TX) irritates me for two different service issues:
1) Have to make appointments, like a week in advance. I know that's pretty much standard, but I still hate it.
2) They will not do anything remotely technical on a Saturday, just crap like oil changes and stuff. When I took my car in for squeaky seats they told me this. The service manager backed it up more than once.
Do the rest of you guys find this to be true, that you can't get a "real" problem diagnosed on the weekend?

I made an appointment yesterday (Thursday) for next friday. i wanted this weekend but they don't fix squeaky seats or moon roof rattling on the weekend. those are 'major repair's' thats what i've been told, so sounds like you scenario. Makes me wish we had a Park AVe. Acura here in Texas. those guys seem to love that dealership.

Most of the dealers around here do the same because they don't work with a full staff on the weekends an they only have 8 hrs to take care of every other lazy bastard who waits until Sat. Some even close on Saturdays during our winter. Just take a Friday off and have them give you a loaner.
Or take it to your local corner shop. Oh, wait...they can't fix that?

Yeah...I went in for Oil Service and when I picked up my car it wasn't washed. My service advisor said they are just short handed on Saturdays. I told her that was thier problem and not mine. They dictate work schedule. I told the service advisor the I could save 18 bucks by going to goodyear and if they won't wash my car I see no value in getting it done at the dealership!

as for working on saturdays i agree its more convenient but you got to think of those workers as well, everyone wants saturdays off to relax and get a ton of stuff done. so i dont mind going in during the week to drop my car off or wait for it or whatever

Alright guys, here's the dealio... My father is a mechanic and has worked at several auto repair places. And it is the same everywhere, not just service depts at dealers.
THE reason that they don't do service on the weekends is the fact that they don't have access to all the parts they need. They don't stock all the possible parts they will need for repairs so they either have to go to another dealer, or parts place to get them... HOWEVER, parts places that dealers use are usually always closed on weekends. In order for dealerships to perform the right kind of service, they will need correct parts, and that isn't just going to happen unless the parts places are open as well.
Most of the time, the weekends are spent getting cars ready to be turned over to the cust after they bought it.
My dad works his ASS off during the week putting in 10 hr days, he needs to be able to have days off and relax as well.
