Post Get 2001 TL or 2002 TL-S ? (Long)

Okay....I've been lurking for a while now, and decided to delurk to ask the opinion of the group here (since I haven't seen a thread asking the same question)....

My wife is in the market for a new vehicle. After testing the BMW 3 series, Lexus IS300, Lexus ES300, Volvo S40, Volvo S60 T5, and the 2001 Acura 3.2TL, we've decided to go with the Acura, since it provides the best bang for the buck, and my wife's Honda Civic (92 EX 4D w/mods) has been bulletproof.

The question that I pose to you all is this: Would you wait for the 2002 TL-S or get a 2001 TL at a good price when the 2002's come out ? I am in a position to wait and we are not in a rush to get a TL now.

Opinions, rants, raves ?

Regards,
Steve

To me, the TL-S is a great deal. I wish I have got the type S. On the other hand, I don't like the front end of the new design. So, if you don't like the new design as well. Then it's the time to get the 2001TL. Of course it's not gonna be a SUPER deal. Because you get a lot more in the 2002 with MSRP.

Personally I have to say that I have a lot problems with my TL. My engine check light is always on. I have 18k km on my car, I will say that the damn light is on 95% of the time. If you got that problem. You will have trouble with the TCS as well as engine rattle, knocking...etc. Pain in the ass.

I also got LOTS noise from the drivers' seat, and rear seat. I wasn't on any rough road. In fact I was in the parking lot going 5km/h... This happens to me every morning and night...

I got noise from the driver's side window, too...

I am not trying to scare you or anything... I just want you to understand that the quality on the TL ain't that good IMHO. or maybe I got a lemon... who knows...

Funny thing is that my Bimmer friends have no problem witht the car what so ever. There are 4 BMW owners amount my friends. I know two IS300 guy. I am sure that one of them have problems on his car, and is not happy with the dealer as well.

I thought Japanese car will be more reliable, but I guess it's not the case for me and my friends this time...

Many have asked the same question, including me. Search for this topic and you'll find lots of opinions.

Bottom Line:
More Horsepower, Vehicle Stability Assist, Bigger Wheels, Memory Seats, Foglights are some of the major differences. If they don't mean much to her or you, do the 2001 and save loads. That's what I decided to do.

Welcome lurking Beast.

some TL's do have problems mentioned above but I think it's lemon... Most the TL's here have great quality, quiet ride. and of course, if more power, memory seat, 6-CD in dash changer, white tail, different front end don't mean much, go for the 2001 TL. and actually the normal TL's are pretty fast, too.
