Gas tank: missing mini-flap/door

If I'm not mistaken, there IS supposed to be a little mini-door where you put the gas nozzle, right? I've seen this on EVERY car I've ever put gas into, except my TL.

It's been like this since I bought the car at the end of 08.

ahhh the old flap in the filler neck question

that dates back to when the switch to unleaded gas and leaded for other cars- had to have something to make sure the leaded gas didnt go into cat equipped cars
(diesel nozzle wont fit your car either--too large)

with only unleaded avail at stations now (except race gas sold at some places)
there is no longer a need for the flap
anywhere car maker can save a penny --it will

I always thought it was for anti theft of your gas...

And yeah, think about how many cars they sell...Those pennies add up quick.

i think mine actually has the flap you are talking about :pounder:

but if anything the spring behind has probably broke, not much you can really do about it anyways, other then replace the filler neck (as long as it fills up correctly i would not worry about it though)

there is a sock over the fuel pickup in the tank,
so if there was a flap and it fell in- no sweat
