Gas Mileage on TL-S
I don't know about you guys, but my TL-S gets not very good gas mileage. I get like 350km on the tank b4 the light goes on. I'm aware you can still drive about 100km with it...but I'm still wondering what I'm doing wrong.
All you ppl in the US state that you get an average of 380 Miles to the tank...how do you guys do it....?
I shouldn't ask but what things are you guys doing to save your gas?
it's starting to get ridiculous, I'm at the pumps every other, or every third day.

What type of gas are you using? I would think you have something wrong with your car. I just got an ASPEC this week, I got about 550km on my first tank of gas. I filled up with Sunco 94 Octane now so I will let you know how much mileage I'll get.
By the way in general you must use Premium gas, and in talking to my dealer Sunco is the best gas then Shell, then Petro and last Esso.
Anyone else have any gas mileage numbers?

I get 250-260 per tank. Exxon 93 octane. 19-21 mpg. Mobil 1 Syn 5w-30, no mods. Mostly city. If I throw in a couple of highway trips, I get about 25 mpg.

oh really Esso is the worst? Sh*t, that's the only gas that I've been using lately, and I am using the premium gas.
So yah maybe tonight I will go fill up with Sunoco.

also guys, what driving conditions are you driving? mostly highway? or mostly city?
see I do 90% city driving, and I very often will gunn the car for the fun of it....I guess I pretty much answered my own question about why the gas mileage is so bad.
The guys who get 500+ km to a tank of gas....are you guys aggressive drivers?

Mine gets around 24.X average over the tank. it's about 50/50 split. We are not heavy gas pedal people.
What floor me is so far i don't think i've gotten over 30MPG on the long highway trips.
My dad has a 2001 TL-P he's routinely gotten 27-28MPG average.
What oil do you people use in your TLS? I use Mobil-1 5W-30. I think that might be reason my figures are a little lower. they recommend 20Wt, but i can't find it, even acura dealer puts in 30wt.

Gas mileage on this car is all about driving style. If you accelerate hard your mileage will suffer big time....

My dealer is using 5w-20 from Honda and it is not synthetic.
Pennzoil and Castrol both also makes non-synthetic 5w-20 oil.
I am getting about 22-24 mpg with mostly stop and go driving with A/C on.

Best I've ever done was a LA to Vegas all highway run, pump to pump with only a lunch exite off freeway break, trying to maintain 70MPH (and not get rear ended. It was 33MPG. (TL-P got 35MPG doing the same run)
My city mileage sucks, mid-upper teens mostly.

Here are my 2 cents on fuel mileage for my Noble Green 2002 TL Type-S w/Nav. First of all, I have no mods (pure stock), 25,000 miles, with the original Michelins (@38 lbs), 99% highway miles (several trips from PA to FL and back), with the speeds varrying from 65 to 85, and the original transmission (knock on wood). I have also tried several premium gasolines - Mobil, Shell, Texaco, and Exxon, with Exxon being the best for me, and Shell being the worst. The best fuel mileage I ever got was 33.5 mpg, 3 or 4 times, so I know it is not a fluke. The worst I ever got on the highway was 30.1 mpg (my wife driving). With city and highway combined, I get around 24.5. I verified Exxon being the best gas for me by using it in my 2002 Accord EX (4 cyl - commuter car) with the same results. I believe that several things relate to good fuel mileage: 1) type of fuel used, 2) tire inflation (I check mine every month), 3) driving style, 4) road conditions, and 5) weather conditions (especially wind). Oh, by the way, I use AMSOIL 5w-20.

1st Tank: 19 MPG
2nd Tank: 20 MPG
3rd Tank: 19 MPG
4th Tank: 19 MPG
5th Tank: 16.5 MPG*
First 4 tanks were during the break-in. I kept the revs low. I was surprised at the bad mileage, but I figured the engine just needed to loosen up. Car had 7 miles on it when I picked it up, so not too much test driving happened to it.
My driving is 60/40 highway/city, and I live in AZ with crappy 91 octane gas.
*Drove 5th Tank 70% in SS mode. I'm keeping it out of SS on this tank hoping that the mileage will get into the mid 20s. 16.5 MPG is really bad. I'll keep you posted

Some of you guys might think I'm crazy...but I've kept a log of every time I've gotten gas since first ownership of the car.
Car purchased in April 28, 2001
First tank of gas purchased in May 01, 2001
Some 140 receipts later, the best recorded milage was done on...November 14, 2001.
I believe I was going to Las Vegas at the time where I travelled 442.9 miles on a single tank of gas (18,552 on odometer).
Prices then was $1.899 for a gallon of 91 Octane and I filled up 15.565 gallons.
That equals to 28.46 miles/gallon (assuming I had a full tank of gas on the last time I filled up).
To achieve the best gas mileage...one must drive the slowest they can on the highest gear with all the windows up. A constant cruise of UNDER 70 MPH (in 5th) should do the trick.

i generally get 24-26 with about 50/50 highway/city driving, long trips got up to around 30 for all highway with few short stops in between. now if i happen to play around on the weekend between fill ups, then my gas mileage drops alot

With 1400 miles and a few tanks down - I started out getting about 19 -
Slowly it has gotten much better - to make it easy I fill up @ 100 miles on the trip comp - my last top off had me right at 23.5 and most of it was in town. I always use the same gas station since it is right around the corner from me and most of my driving is to and from work.
No long trips yet so can't really give a HWY estimate.

That is funny...I get between 35-42 mpg every tank depending on how hard I am on her...if I am constantly hitting tripple digits (3rd gear) then the numbers plumet.
My biggest problem is range...the most miles I have gotten is 135.
Maybe that is cause I have a 4.5 gallon tank! I have never put 4 gallons in her though.
Oh I think I know why I am getting so much better milage than you all...it is the weight difference I am sitting at 430 WET! (Not including my big butt). Loosing the extra wheels really helps the LBS drop.

been getting aroung 290 miles per tank before the light comes on in 60%city 40%highway driving.. i thought that was the best i was gonna get out of my 2000TL, until i went on a trip to RI.. Drove around 75-80mpg on I95 and got around 430miles on a tank (till the light came on). that's around 28-29mpg, not too bad... I guess aroudn 20-22mpg is the best u can expect aroudn town...
