Gas mileage...finally fixed

So I spoke to Acura in markham, and they stated to me that they found nothing wrong with the car mechanically, but they did adjust a few things in terms of timing (idle, firing of the engine, etc...). Anyways I went up north today where I did about 95-96% highway driving, and I think that my TL has finally been cured of poor mileage. Just so that I would eliminate all possibilities of biases, I filled the car up at a local Shell station using 91 optimax plus, and at that time I filled up 44.502L of gas. Anyhow, I started on my trip to horseshoe valley (120km north of toronto), where I travelled on the 400N, setting the cruise at an average of 115km/h (70-72 MPH). After doing the round trip, my Trip A read 235.4km, and I went back to the same station, and the same pump for that matter, and the car was only able to take 18.786L. So if you so the math, that comes out too 7.98L/100km, which is equivalent to 29.47 MPG. I had me driving, my father sitting beside me, and my little sister in the back. We totaled about 700 lbs of total weight in the car, and I had the a/c set to off the whole time.

Is this mileage respectable considering it was all highway driving?

29 MPG seems pretty decent IMO, what do you guys think???

29 is good gas milage for all highway....what did you get before on all highway trips?....ive been reading alot o your posts because i get similar gas milage as you and you've really only posted city mileage...once you go back to all city miles your gas milage will be back below 20 mpgs im sure...im skeptical as to weather the dealer would really change thoe settings....let me know tho...cause im in need of better gas milage as well

and on top of which, I had about 25% left of sunoco gas in the tank when I filled up with shell gas, so chances are had I not mixed the two gases, I would have gotten a bit better mileage. Plus it's winter time. I know that down in Toronto the mixture of compounds in the gasoline to help with rough starts absolutely sucks your gas. So take into account all of these variables and I'm sure I could easily crack 30 MPG on the highway. I'm quite pleased with these results, and now no longer need to worry about mileage, cause I know it's all because of my short trips and stuff.

One thing I was surprised is before I went on this trip up north, I check my tire pressure, and after driving around for 10 min, the pressure read 30.5 PSI, which is ridiculously low. I put the fronts up to 39, and the backs to 37. I wonder if this would have improved my mileage?

who knows, but I'm no longer paranoid that something is wrong with the car.

Keep in mind that I picked up the car yesterday from the dealer where they performed a Type 3 service on the vehicle, which leads me to believe that they f*cking took some air out of my tires. But 30.5 PSI after I complained about my gas mileage. Are they trying to decrease my results even more? I'm sure the techy was just a moron...or had a hangover

who knows, but I'm no longer paranoid that something is wrong with the car.

sc354 Can you post a detail description of what the dealer did I am anxious to know? If you can scan the work order and post it that will be great for all board members, maybe that dealer knows something other dealers don't.

I just got my car tune up, fuel inj. and everything and I get 15mpg all city driving. I told the dealer about it and they had no answers for me.

I don't have a copy of the work order right now due to acura in markham having to claim with honda canada all the labour involved in this, and so they will mail me a copy of the warranty claim in a few weeks.

As for your mileage, unfortunately you will probably continuie to get this mileage like I do, due to the fact that you do 100% city driving. Take the car on a long drive like I did. Go atleast 150 miles, and then see how much you need to fill up the tank. You should get similar figures to me, if you get substantially worse, then something is wrong with your car.

good luck with that.

hey jeff galad to hear you finnally got some great mileage!
i just returned from my ski trip to lutsen minnesota, put 892 miles on. left with a full tank filled up once! put roughly 14.6 gallons in on the way home and it looks like i will have to put roughly that many in tommorrow. it comes out to a little over 30 mpg. 29 is very good.
on the down side my new windshield i had put in wed, well i need another new one! on the way up there i took a rock dead center and it cracked my new windshield!

**** kris that sux...I tried calling your cell a few times over the weekend but got your voicemail everytime, I assumed you had gone away.

Ya I'm pretty content with that kind of mileage. Who knows, maybe if I had gone a little faster...somewhere in the 80 MPH range and gone a farther distance the mileage may have improved marginally. Anyhow I'm happy with this mileage.

In the meantime, I also switched from Sunoco to Shell gas. I now only use 91 octane at shell, and believe it or not I'm getting far better mileage in the city. I think that my car just doesn't agree to Sunoco. Performance wise, there's nothing like Sunoco, but to get optimal range on a tank of gas, Shell seems to be the way to go.

I deal with mario over there in service. He's the assistant service manager. I only paid that price because my brakes were done under warranty, and I brought my own oil, therefore it was less for them to do the work.
