My '99's gauge will be a good 1/4 of an inch from the top even when the tank is fully topped off.

I don't know about warrantee but i'm sure if it is under the dealer tech can fix it.

My 99 TL did that, just tell your dealer that the gas guage is reading incorrectly and as long as you got warrenty....they'll do it. I had this problem corrected like 1 1/2 yrs ago. Took them like an hr to fix it and they already know what to do.....goodluck

Most likely I forget what they call it exactly sending relay or something. I had this same problem on my 1994 ACCORD that I purchased new in 1993. The problem happen after the car was over a year old. The needle would not go past the F mark as it should have & the car was full of gas it only went to just about the F mark. I filled the car up again before I took it to the dealer. It was covered under warranty & I had that car another 5yrs with no problem with the gas guage.

It's the fuel sending unit. It can be fixed under warranty.

If I recall the fuel sending unit is just one simple resister. The more fuel is in the tank the further the float moves to the top of the tank (duh). The higher the float moves the more resistance signal it sends to the gauge.

That being said there could be fluel seeping into the float creating a ballast effect. With the extra weight (fuel) in the float it won't rise as high in the tank to create the full resistence the gauge needs to read a full tank.

Class dismissed

yes it is the fuel sending unit. 1999 Acuras had this problem mostly on the west coast. My old 99 tl had this happen 2 months after i got it. The dealer replaced it under wattenty and there is a TSB on it. Take it back and have it replaced.

I just got my fuel sender changed yesterday - The problem is very common on 99's, adn Acura has issued a bulletin to the dealers about it.

Well my 99 TL started doing that recently. It'd be full, but it won't show full. It'll be one notch less. I gas up today with fuel light on. It should have about 10L left in tank. But I fueled only 40 L and the needle is one notch below F. So I know I'm 10 L short Looks like it's dealer time. I'll need to get my ignition switch replaced too. Didn't do that for over a yr! :P

I had it done as well, actually started doing it after an accident. Leave from home, tank three quarters full.. two miles later on the freeway.. full... sender was replaced and all is well.
