there is a BIG differance
The TL requires Teir 1 quality gas- google it
Chevron Texaco Shell 76 all are of that quality standard and all have bonus fuel cleaner added to them.
You get better mileage and less garbage with the right gas.
Grin and bear it, or give up another vice to pay for gas

Check out www.toptiergas.com

What pisses me off is that up till last month I paid 10c more for mid-grade, and another 12c more for V power.
Now BP is charging 14c more for mid-grade, and additional 10c for premium.
Shell just jacked their V-Power to14c over mid-grade.

Friggin' legalized mafia that is government supported

Just put in premium (91 or better) from where ever you trust. Get used to the high prices as well. They are only going to go higher. Also where possible stay away from fuels with 10% ethanol

I've been using Shell V-Power for about six months now, I've noticed the car runs a lot smoother, and doesn't seem to do any of the quirky stuff it does with other brands of gas.

What brands don't use Ethanol? Seems like every pump I've used lately warn it might contain ethanol. Sunoco has good prices in my area....anyone have any comments on their gas?

Around here BP some Mobil's and Citgo dont have it. Just check the pumps. They are supposed to say contains 10% by each octane if they have it

From what I had heard, Shell uses 10% ethanol on their lowest grade, 5% on mid-grade, and 0% on premium, though I don't know how true that actually is.

well then- by all means - spread that info with no facts to back it up!
Have you checked and learned the additives for cleaning like Techron come in the 91?

Azp TL- you cant say arco is fine until you run other gas IN the TL
I was an arco user on my truck and the TL for a short time after its purchase, until I tried the Tier 1 brands and noticed better mileage and cleaner running feel in both rides.
Acurazine info pays off again!

If you are comparing the differance between the grades of gas and worried over 1-2 dollars PER TANK!- especially since the lower grades/octane cannot be used in the TL,,,
what do you even CARE what they cost, only 1 number on the price board is of any concern.

Sell the TL right now and buy an econobox- you own a sports luxery car now-
it may be time for you to convert to a bicycle

I'm pretty sure 01tl4tl will agree to ANY premium gas so long as you put in a can of Sea Foam in it.

Nah, my mileage is right about where Acura claims the car should be. I've put in Shell V Power a couple times when I was running low and noticed no discernable difference. Car runs smooth with no odd behavior on Arco Premium.

seafoam has its uses. Its not an octane booster, but will clean that arco crud residue out!
There is a reason acura wants us to use certain things- clean gas is one of them.
The Shell commercial is real- that stuff is combustion byproduct and gets on the valve edge so they dont seal perfectly, and the piston is covered in crud instead of clean metal for better ignition of combustible materials

Use whatever makes you happy and we will all do the same
Now lets review what oil is the best in each persons opinion -ugh
or debate tire pressures or Tein SS dampening settings

Here on Long Island every gas station i've been to says "contains 10% ethanol" on every pump whether its 87 octane or 93.

Costco gas ought to be the same as any Tier 1 company gas in your area except for the lack of additives.

The way I see it is that using Costco gas shouldn't be a problem so long as you buy Premium (91 or higher Octane rating) and throw in couple bottles of Techrone a month.

Preferably put a can of Sea Foam in the tank twice a year.

The tag near the gas cap says to use premium gas, nothing more. Shell is overpriced and leaves residue like any other gas. The additives they advertise is marketing to justify the higher prices. Same goes for Chevron or any other company. I've used Arco for many years without any problems whatsoever and the few times I did use some of the so called better gases I noticed no difference whatsoever.

Of course, if someone is cutting corners at a station and putting water in the tanks that's not at the fault of Arco. I've heard such stories about most of the brands.

I don't know how it goes in Arizona but here in California, Arco's gas makes my family's cars run like shit. I used to use it in my cars years ago. Then just one day I pulled into Chevron and filled it up. The difference was night and day. Smoother idle, better acceleration, better mileage. I've never used that garbage from Arco or any other off-brand stuff since. Recently I've started to use Shell and I feel no difference between it and Chevron. The only difference is that it's anywhere from 10-15 cents cheaper than my local Chevron. And this is one of the cheapest Chevron stations I know of.

How long ago was that? I've heard Arco's gas was fairly cheap and low grade in the past until they were bought by BP in 2000.

It's mostly the additives that makes it a top tier gas, and more expensive;duh!

If you are using a couple of bottles of Techron per month, you certainly aren't saving any money by using Costco.
Do the math

He should still save couple bucks that way.

The OP question was whether Costco's gas was any different from Shell's.
So I answered the question. The gas is the same, but no additives in Costco's.

Costco, however, sells Techrone at slightly over $2 a bottle, so two bottles a month is $4-5 of added cost.

Using Sea Foam twice a year should be around $13, so it's slightly more than a dollar per month. This is recommended by 01tl4tl even for those who use Tier 1 gas.

What I had said is not so much about how to save money, because you can't get something for nothing, but about clarifying what one should do to make sure that the car gets adequate amount of fuel system cleaning while using cheap gas with no additives.

for those who run arco for years and try 1 or 2 tanks of good gas- thats not going to be enough to clean the stuff out and make it run better.

The book does not say everything- look how old it is! Thats why there is acura.com, honda tech forums, service bulletins, acurazine and more. We dont make this stuff up - its tested by many members and reported back.
Everyone loved seafoam the old way, and we were only getting 3 of 6 cylinders. My car is better after using the correct direct vac port at the TB to get seafoam in the engine intake system. Thats step 1

Costco has techroline for 2 bucks- man its 10 bucks for enough to treat a tank in the states

"You forgot Car washing liquids or gascap turns"
No need- not a debated item
Doesnt everyone use steel wool pads and powdered dishwashing detergent for the car?

At least the gas cap has specific directions printed right on it!

Just for everyone's clarification Costco gas is actually Valero (at least in Nor Cal).

When i was waiting in line to fill up I asked the tanker truck driver where the gas is from and he replied the Valero refinery here in the Bay Area.

I have been using it for years and saving $2 per tank which is $100 per year - pays for the membership at least.

It was after 2000 when I made the switch. It still holds true because last year I finally got my dad to try a tank of Chevron. He used to go to Arco or Valero all of the time. Even he noticed the difference and he's very hard to impress. He hasn't been to Arco/Valero since. Occasionally he fills up at Costco but other than that, only Chevron.

I didn't know that. I always wondered where they bought their fuel from.

Most of the UDF's (United Dairy Farmers) in this area are changing their name to Valero.
They are supplied by the Venezuelans/Chavez. There were so many boycotts, he decided to change the name in an effort to recover sales.
This is according to local news reports.

My 2004 I35 gets about 125 more miles per tank then my TL-S did ..... I was lucky if I was getting 280-300 per fillup, my I35 seems to be very very good on gas and I only use premium ..

As MPG I get 21 in my I35 and about 16-17 in my TL-S, groundzero your MPG is horrendous.
