93 octane or more. The car has a detonator sensor which retards timing so you wont screw anything up, but your performance does suffer if you use the lower grades.

Was what I was told BS?
When I tested a Audi A6 3.0 I was told I didnt have to use the high octane because of alcohol level in the gas in my area. To be safe, I can use lower octane but it will affect performance? Will performance then raise when I do use higher octane? Not a big car guy so thanks for the help.

I was driving through indiana once and came across a station with 94 octane...in fact you could buy every octane between 87 and 94...interesting....and speaking of gas, prices have jumped here 10 cents in 36 hours!!!!
$2.07 yesterday am - it's now $2.17! I'm sure it's much more in Cali though.....

Compression ratio has a lot to do with the knock as well quality of gas. If memory serves the TL-S has 10.5:1. Pretty high for just about every stock car. My Talon has 9.5:1 (non-turbo obviously) and I still feed it 93 always. Never a knock in 9 years.
I guess we're lucky in gas prices. Exxon is going for $1.84 to $1.94 for 93 on the weekends (Thursday to Monday night). But on Tuesday mornings 93 is the same price as 91 (about $1.70)! Just have to bust my but to get to work that day.

in NY and CT the gas is sold usually as 87, 89, 93. There is one station that sells 94 but i dont recall if its Sunoco or Texaco. Fortunately i have a corporate gas card and dont have to pay for fuel myself because i fill up approx. 3 times a week, and the last fill up i was 2.07/gallon.
I dont mean to sound like an old fogie, but when i got my license back in 1983 i remember gas by me was about 79 cents a gallon.
I can still remember the first time i paid $1 a gallon for it and i thought "gosh this is outrageous, good thing it will never be like $2 or more" HA!

Right now 93 Octane at Citgo up here in Massachusetts at least around my area is $1.88/gallon. Mobil has 91 Octane for $1.90. I guess that isn't too bad considering people in other states are paying over $2.00/gallon.

Yes in Cali you only have 91 nothin higher. Down south you;ll find anywhere from 94-104 octane at the pump but you're looking at over $7/gallon for this. I feel the best gas is either shell or texaco same company really. They have great detergents and are woth the extra few pennies.

Yep, most MA stations are 87, 89, 93. Sunoco also offers 94 as well as the other three and some Citgo stations now offer 87, 89, 92 and 93. But anything over 91 is fine.

Okay, so in my last post on this thread, gas was $2.17, and it had risen sharply over the last day...well, all but a few hours later, it's now $2.21....yikes!

Spartanburg is a point of distribution for gas in the Southeast and we run about $1.68 for 93 octane.
I found an old gas receipt from April of 2000 and I paid 93 cents per gallon. Hhmmm what could be different???? Are you better off now than 4 years ago???? The current administration is rotten.

Tubby - The acura manual recommends a particular octane for optimum performance, but again, you can run on lower grades and the engine will compensate for it, albeit at a sacrifice of performance. Any way you slice it, gas has gotten too expensive. The feds should cut back on the taxes it imposes for fuel when the rates get this high, but it seems like the administration is breathing gas fumes and is high itself.... :smokin:
