Future TL Type-S owner
Hey all, just sayin what's up and introducing myself.
I'm about to be the owner of this car most likely Acura 3.2TL Type-S
I'm from Atlanta, 17, this is pretty much a gift to me I guess, but I should have the car a couple days after New Years 1) If it's still at that dealer 2) If I don't find a better deal. I've looked through every single last tranny problem thread on this forum and over at Acura World .com and pretty much I feel comfortable with the inevitability that the tranny will go bad, mainly because of the warranty. I have a question tho...Has anyone thought about going somewhere BESIDES Acura for a new tranny or a tranny rebuild? Such as Level 10? I know they build trannies to hold tons of power which also can equate to the trannies being reliable, and it just seems like some transmission professionals would be able to clear up that 3rd gear cluster problem.
I realllllllllly would like Navi, but if not...kool. It seems that those are a rare find, but if any of you SouthEast members know of any deals please let me know. Off the bat we're offering the dealer $16,500 for that car, do you think that's low balling him?

Hey, welcome to the board.
$16,500 would be a FANTASTIC price for a TL/S (unless it has over 100k miles, which I'm doubting) but if you get the warranty you are covered to 100k miles so any tranny problems will be automatically covered by the Acura dealer. I remember some people with S/C and turbo getting rebuilt transmissions because of the extra stress it would put upon the tranny, but other than that I really don't know anyone else that has gone that route.
As for the board, if you like to modify your car from time-to-time this site will beat up your wallet so bad you won't know what hit you. Be prepared to modify your car to no end with rims, engine modifications, body kits, spoilers, suspension kits, anything you could get your hands on.
Give us an update sometime. What color are you thinking of getting?

Stay away from Level 10 ... Stay far far away from them. They had a lot of problems a few years ago with people ordering parts and Level 10 taking their money but never delivering the product. I don't know if it was ever resolved, but its still left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths.
If you're willing to fork over the money, I believe that DeansblackCLS over on AcuraZine's CL site may be able to help you out. His name and number are:
Dean Baty
Speed Distributors
407-772-0070
and his company's website is: http://www.speeddistributors.com/
They used to sell an upgraded tranny for the TL-S/CL-S, not sure if they still do but they might be able to at least help you out in aquiring the right parts.
Can't help ya with much else, haven't looked at prices on used TL-S's .. but good luck with your purchase.

I've been contacting the dealer through e-mail and a phone call here and there and I've talked to him down to around $16,500 haha, I'm good with words? BUT, I'm waiting until the week after New Years to see if I can find something better, I REALLY like the look of black interior and I'd really love to find a car with Navigation, I hear Acura is on top of it's game with that and I think it completes the look of the interior.
So once again, if any of you guys know of some pure deals in the SouthEast on some TL Type-S's let me know because I realllllllllllllly am fiending for navigation.

I wouldn't buy a TL without the Navi system. It makes these cars soooooo much more special than they already are.

What if I bought a TL-S from a independent dealer then got it Acura certified, how much would that be? It was to my understanding that as long as the car is a Acura under 50,000 miles it's still under a Acura bumper to bumper warranty and same with the 100,000 mile power train warranty? Someone clue me in....

Yeah, I have a feeling I'm gonna be in total love...Can someone explain to me this certified Acura thing? I thought all Acura's (Faily new Acura's) were covered, but if not, and I happen to buy the car from a non-Acura dealer would I have to go to one to get it certified or what? I need it alllll spelled out...
And I'm getting that tranny worry again from reading people gripe and complain, my Volvo 850 Turbo lasted/is lasting deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep into the 100,000's on it's 3rd tranny, having them replaced and having to pay for them is a pain in the ass for my family, and that's part of the reason I'm straying to the TL (In main because of the warranty). I don't think financially I could be able to deal with the car after 100,000 miles and I blow a tranny, I'll drive a car until the wheels fall off but you wouldn't expect most modern cars to crap out on you.
Of course I wouldn't be driving the TL 1,000's of miles a month(I hope) because the Volvo will be here, but it's just that assurance that the car will be there for me that bothers me.

You might want to avoid that TL-S. Test drove that one with a friend and got pulled over for speeding! It's been crashed (look carefully at the airbag covers and front end). We were also pretty hard on it.
How ironic.

Yeah, a very bad pic -- I was driving in that picture and it was a camera-phone. You can make out that it is a dark green TL-S though.
The second image didn't load but it was a picture of the ticket.

Yeah, now I see it. Daaaamn, God must love me because that was seriously the car I was going to get and I would've been fucked over too. Thanks a ton, I guess I won't be going to that guy's dealership anytime soon, even though that was by far the best deal I've seen, but now it all makes sense, back to searching

This is what I just sent to the dealer...
"A friend of mine just reported to me that that Green TL Type-S I was looking at was in a accident. Do you have any other Type-S's that were not in a accident?"
I wonder what he'll think of that

Oh I would avoid ATL Used Cars at all cost. I've driven about 10 of their vehicles and all of them have been screwed up. That's how they offer those prices. Stay away, stay far away.
On the other hand, try Nalley Acura. Those guys are extremely helpful and offered me a 22k mile 2003 Acura CL-S for under $21k. Might be a little more than what you can pay, but they have similar cars for less than that -- and their cars are high quality.

Here's the new most likely candidate
E-Bay
Hopefully the bidding on this one stays low, I doubt it though, and maybe by the grace of God again someone will chime in and tell me that they drove this car and it's been in a accident...

I use Nalley Acura when I bought my 02 TL-s, and have been really impressed with thier service and attention to detail. You can't go wrong IMO.
