Angry funky idling

I've recently noticed that my '02 TLS has some funky idling.

If I'm stopped at a light or just sitting in "parked", my engine will start stutterring just a little in a constant rythym. The engine hasn't completely died yet. This happens regardless of the engine temperature. Even after driving 30 miles, it'll still idle funny. I've also noticed that it does this regardless of the AC.

Anyone experiencing this? Anyone know what could be causing it?

Thanks.

Yes, and it is scary I got 18600 miles and I get at times. I told the dealer about it and after hearing about all these lovely trannies we got, and they said nothing wrong!!! I said WTF... They told me to bring it back in when it happens MORE FREQUENTLY, so that our technicians can know what I am talking about..

Yea, I'm at 22000 miles right now. I think I remember reading somewhere that this was a timing belt issue. Only thing is, I can't figure out why a timing belt issue would cause a rythmic stutter in the engine.

It's carbon build-up in the fuel injection system. I had the exact same thing recently. You might find it's 10x's worse after the car sits for 2 or 3 days. Use a good fuel inj cleaner every 7.5 to 10k miles,or use Chevron fuel and you'll be fine.

not really, "greese lightning" worked for me but others recommend some stuff you can only get at dealerships,i think tecron is also good. but im almost poss.this will solve your idleing prob. and if not, could have used it anyway.
side note: just drive it normally with the cleaner in it DON'T RACE IT!

A couple of weeks ago Mine was Idling funny but it aslo was not sifting right either....So i took it to the dealer and they said it was the TPS (Throttle position sensor) Thankfully they said Tranny looked alright, but to monitor the idiling problem. hasn't done it since

Probably the best (if you can find it) is BG 44K. You'd have to call around to dealerships to see if they sell it, since it's not sold in stores.

Other than that, anything with Techron in it is also good. Two brands that come to mind are Chevron Techron (obviously) and STP Complete.

I've used both - and they're both good.

Hi folks,

I am about to buy a 1999 3.2TL.
Did a cold start and I heard the idling problem...like it would surge in a rhythm for like 4 or 5 times then go back to normal, then repeat itself again.

After we filled it up with gas (gas light was on) and test drove it, it no longer did that.

Do you think I have the same problems.

1 mechanic told me it might be a Oxygen Sensor problem. He also ran a diagnostic thing, plugged in by ash tray and he got some error code P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold message. He said that it's related to the O2 Sensor and that it is nothing too serious.

I spole to another mechanic and he said it might be the Idle Sensor...

Called Acura Service center up and they said it must be some kind of sensor acting up.

I agree with fla-tls, STP complete system works great, I had a '96 Maxima and I use it as recommended every 4 to 5k miles and I never have to mess with injectors at all, also you never mentioned what brand of fuel you use, I always use Chevron or Exxon, avoid all the cheap gas, our cars are great on gas, should be no reason to put cheap gas in it. Also it is true that if you have problems with the throttle position sensor, you will experience this problem.
