Question fuel / spark plug question

Ok this weekend i changed my spark plugs out and the tech pointed out the red near the tips of the plugs meant i was using too high of a fuel octane, but i told him i dont even use 93 most of the time i put in 91 and thats what is recommended. anyone else have any insite as to what else may be causing that? ive only had the car for 10k miles so it could also be something the previous owner did.

I thought that some fuel system cleaners can cause red on the spark plugs - its not a problem

93 would not hurt if you put it in, i changed my plugs at 50k with iridium and they were red, all that is available here in california is 91, but I use redline fuel system cleaner every tank & chevron techron cleaner every 3000 miles ...

I changed my spark plugs a little while back and the tips were grey which means that everything is working as it should. I only use Sunoco 94 in the tips did not have a hint of red on them. Im sure that in your case it is something that the previous owner did.

wow...why do you use so much cleaner? that is really a big time overkill and isnt helping anything

i wouldnt worry about it. especially if they were all the same. now if 1 looked really bad and the rest were normal or something along those lines i may look into solutions

redline is like 4 bucks for 100 gallons of treatment, and chevron is cheap at costco...

prove it's causing more harm then good and i will give you a cookie... the does not concern me...

I changed my spark plugs at 128K, and they were pretty much shot. I'm not sure what you mean when you say they are red, but ever since I replaced them the car has run so much more smoother. I also used redline gas treatment for about 3 tanks of gas in a row just to get all that shit out of the injectors/fuel system. Using it every tank I think is definately overkill. It could possibly damage your engine, not sure, but it will definately cause you to go broke in the end! Hell I'm paying too much for gas as it is... I'm certainly not about to shell out another 7 bucks or whatever Redline costs per tank!!!
