Fuel Economy for TL-S
Just curious what people with TL-S stock is getting fuel economy wise. I'm probably getting 19 and I'm wondering if this is normal. I'm doing a good amount of stop and go with traffic and street driving.

I've got 1500 miles on my 2002 TL-S. Mostly commuting to work--40 miles one way--at 65 to 80 mph.
First tank mpg = 23.
Second tank mpg = 25
Third tank mpg = 29
Last tank mpg = 29
Could it be breaking in nicely? Yah!

Hmmm, I haven't really been pushing the car either. It must be the stop and go. I'm on my 3rd tank of gas and It is half full now after 160 Miles. At that rate, it'll be aproxiamately 19 per gallon again. What else could I do to help my fuel efficiency? i want to see that 29hwy, not the 19 city But I guess I just need to come to terms with it being more of a gas guzzler than my Integra

The first 2 items that come to mind that could help fuel mileage is to make sure your tires are inflated to the proper psi, and switch to 5W-30 synthetic at your next oil change. Also if you always have automatic climate control on this will sap your mpg as well.

My first tank was 23.9 MPG.
My second tank is very likely to be between 25 and 26 MPG.
I'll report back when I'm done with the second tank.
I drive mostly highway. (80-90%)
I'm definitely hoping for 29 MPG when it's finally done breaking in. This could be around 1000 to 5000 miles later. It's already showing very good signs at 600 miles.

My trip to the NJ meet got me 27.1 MPG! I went 385 miles on the tank, and it was not even at the line when I got gas!

Step 1 - Fill the tank of gas in the car.
Step 2 - Set the mile counter on the dahs at zero.
Step 3 - Drive and drive and drive and drive until the gas tank is low (try to seperate highway driving from city driving).
Step 4 - Refill the gas tank and take note how many gallons went in.
Step 5 - Divide the miles driven by the volume of gallons of gas take to refill the tank.
Voila. MPG. Simple math.

Driver,
Unfortunately, there is no mpg reading on the nav system like there is in the MDX (maybe next year?!?)...
I believe the others are calculating it manually (forgive me if I am insulting your intelligence, if not, please read on):
1. fill up your tank, and stop when it is full.
2. write down your odometer reading at the gas station.
3. drive (and enjoy it!)
4. when near empty, fill up (preferably at the same gas station/pump, but not that important) and stop when it is full.
5. write down the total gallons used to fill it up this second time.
6. write down the odometer reading at the gas station this second time.
7. Calculate your mpg as follows:
(second odometer reading - first odometer reading) / number of gallons to fill second tank
The top part gives you the miles you travelled on the first tank, divided by the number of gallons you used to replace the gas used on your first tank, yielding mpg.
Again, my apologies if you knew this, but I am sure there are some out there that don't!
You can keep repeating the procedure at each tank to get mpg for each tank...
Good luck!
Tom
