Question Fuel Additives

Do any of you guys use any type of fuel additives like fuel injector cleaners, octane booster, or anything like that? I never have but was curious if anyone else had.

I just ordered some of Redline's Water Wetter, which is a radiator additive. Red Line Water Wetter is designed to provide improved metal wetting and excellent corrosion inhibition when added to plain water or a glycol coolant. The most poorly maintained system in an automobile is usually the cooling system. Maintenance is quite simple and only required once each year, but most vehicle owners never routinely change the coolant or replenish the corrosion inhibitors which are required for trouble-free operation. Proper cooling system maintenance is very critical for most modern engines which utilize more aluminum. Aluminum has a very high corrosion potential, even higher than zinc, which is very widely used as a sacrificial anode. The only property which enables aluminum to be used in a cooling system is that it will form protective films under the proper conditions which will prevent the uncontrolled corrosive attack of acids or bases. Poor aluminum corrosion inhibition will cause the dissolution of aluminum at the heat rejection surfaces, weakening the cooling system walls and water pump casing and weakening the head gasket mating surfaces. These corrosion products will then form deposits on the lower temperature surfaces such as in radiator tubes which have very poor heat transfer properties, causing a significant reduction in the cooling ability of the entire system. Red Line Water Wetter will provide the proper corrosion inhibition for all cooling system metals, including aluminum, cast iron, steel, copper, brass, and lead.

Water has twice the heat transfer capability when compared to 50% glycol antifreeze/coolant in water. Most passenger automobiles have a cooling system designed to reject sufficient heat under normal operating conditions using a 50/50 glycol solution in water. However, in racing applications, the use of water and Water Wetter will enable the use of smaller radiator systems, which means less frontal drag, and it will also reduce cylinder head temperatures, even when compared to water alone, which means more spark advance may be used to improve engine torque.

BENEFIT SUMMARY
-Doubles the wetting ability of water
-Improves heat transfer
-Reduces cylinder head temperatures
-May allow more spark advance for increased torque
-Reduces rust, corrosion and electrolysis of all metals
-Provides long term corrosion protection
-Cleans and lubricates water pump seals
-Prevents foaming
-Reduces cavitation corrosion
-Complexes with hard water to reduce scale

Cool

Techron in a bottle...
that's the only additive i use in my gas...
that water wetter stuff works a little bit...
i've noticed the temp gauge drop a tad toward the cooler side after using it...but i'm not sure that's the only cause in fact i'm positive that it wasn't all the water wetters doing...

I just put a bottle of water wetter in my cooling system 2day and i noticed a drop in temp. according to the guage. I also bought a bottle of NOS Race octane booster and a bottle of NOS Street Octane Booster.

Neither WaterWetter nor Redline fuel system cleaners SI-1 or SI-2 are scams. We have done engine teardowns on cars using RL products and they invariable are clean stem to stern.

Water Wetter works, but it won't lower your temp gauge any - engine coolant temp is regulated by the thermostat - Watter Wetter may lower cylinder head temps, and in racing engines allows you to set some spark advances that would be impossible normally. It bolsters the coolant so I add it at 15k miles to ensure I have enough additive components in my coolant until the change.

Thumbs up

Thanks, Road Rage. I feel better about the Water Wetter now. I am looking forward to adding it in.

Has anyone added any other Engine additives/lubricants to their cars??

I saw an infomercial for Z-max on TV last night and was just wondering.. its some kind of metal lubricant that is supposed to dissolve carbon deposits in the engine, thus increasing performance and fuel efficentcy.. I think it sounds like a scam, but still got me curious..

Have you used any of those types of products?? Additives for the fuel, oil, tranmission fluid.. do they actually work?

I accidently put 87 octane in my car and bought a can of 108 octane boost, it adds 5 octane per tank, or so it says....
