For fsttyms1:Escort 8500 LASER Question
I posted this in another thread, but it is closed for some reason??? Anyway thought I'd ask again...
Hey fsttyms1, I run with a 8500 as well and like the performance. I am thinking of upgrading the software to detect the new POP technology. Is yours mounted behind the tint band? Mine is, just left of the r/v mirror behind the tint band. I have been able to detect LASER, but as you mentioned they have to be targeting on your car. I was curious if I might get better LASER response if I moved the detector below the tint band. I didn't htink the tint mattered much, but saw this on teh Escort webpage:
"We generally do not recommend mounting your detector on the sun visor because the dark tint at the top of most windshields significantly reduces laser detection range, which is the reason we do not include a visor mount as a standard accessory."
Thoughts? When you tested with yours, where was the detector mounted?
BTW, I agree with you 100% regarding driving with a detector, it does not give you a license to speed, it does offer some advanced warning. You should always be attentive while driving and look for things out of the ordinary. Our State Troopers always setup shop with LASER and major highways just about anywhere you can't see them until they can sync on you quickly. I usually see them and begin to coast to slow down, then the Escort emits the tone..if I were to rely on the detector, I'd be w/o a license by now!
