front license plate laws?

front license plate laws?
For those of you who are required by law to have a license plate on your car facing forward (i.e. - Maryland), do any of you know the law about keeping the license plate in your front window instead of having the factory plastic mount scratching up your front end? I just took mine off and put my license plate in the front window. Hopefully, I'll be able to go a couple days without getting in trouble; so I can find out what the deal is with this regarding law. And if it is mandatory to have the plate mounted on the front, are there any alternatives at all? That mount really f's up the bumper.

Hey Guys, I live in New Jersey and you MUST have a front plate, but let me ask you all a question. For those of you who want to put the plate in the front window... God forbid you get into an accident, do you really want that sharp piece of metal flying around your interior at 200 mph? Think about the damage that thing could do to your face or throat.:chainsaw:
Sorry if I scared anyone, but I'm sure that it has happened before. Think about it.

Great question, when planning a move, I try to avoid states that require a front plate.

In Texas they are strict (I got a ticket because the front clip broke and the new one hadn't arrived yet--didn't seem to matter to the cop).<--$75!
I see front plates on the dash more than I used to, but to me it is SO ugly having this big metal plate on the dash that it actually detracts more from the look of the car than just having the plate where it is supposed to go.
