The key to avoiding these tickets is to always park where your rear plate is easily visable. (ie... don't back into parking places so that it is obvious that you don't have a front plate). Cops won't turn around for you on the road for not having a plate because they don't know if you are from out of state or not. All you really have to worry about is getting pulled over for speeding or something else and the cop being a stickler for the front plate law.

Do what I did, I flipped my license plate bracket upside down, so it sits plush with the lower lip, and it still sits low enough that it doesn't bother me. I simply drilled an extra hole in the bracket, and then zip tied it around my lower grill. It's not going anywhere guys. I used the thicker zip ties so it can hold more weight. I have on a number of occassions taken the car up to 110 MPH, and there's no movement at all...

It's a free and definitely worth it mod...

i drilled 2 holes. further in. on the license plate bracket.
then used longer bolts from home depot.
no need to plastic tie.

drilling the holes closer to the lic bracket brought the plate closer in
and less angled.

I want to do that but where the plate hits the bumper, there is a scratch, don't know if someone hit the front of my car and the plate pushed into it or if it was the wind from driving pushing back on it, either way, when I took my plates off, there were two lines where the plates were. | | I just put it back cause it looks ugly with those lines.

I have wear on my bumper from the bracket, but it runs horizontal. It looks like normal wear from touching the bumper every once and a while (its very close normally).

I removed it anyways...front plates really ruin the lines on some cars. I will probably flip the plate holder at some point just so I don't get yanked for it.

I went and got 2 "L" brackets and drill some holes to match the mounting holes on the bumper and the plates. Did some bending and mount my plate underneath the bumper. Looks good. I kinda bend the bracket to the same profile as the lower air dam.

Oh, I also mounted the plates behind a acrylic plate protector to stiffen it up. I'll upload some pic when I have a chance.

I did something similar to tweedle99 with the brackets ... Holds on pretty well, although I need to get stronger wire ties for the bottom I think. Definitely looks 100 times better imho ...

I went to remove mine and the factory put 2 bolts through my beumper cover. I'm pissed!! If I take the plate off, I'll have 2 holes.

Brian

PS. In Mass if you go to the registry of motor vehicles and say you lost your front license plate, they give you a front license plate registration ticket that is good for 2 years. They order your front license plate and it takes like a year for it to come in..... I just never install it after it comes in and use the registration when I'm pulled over.

I live in IL, never have had a plate on the front of my 99 TL. Drove my previous car for 9 years without a front plate as well, and only got pulled over one time - for speeding.

Talked my way out of the speeding, but he gave me a warning ticket for tint and no front plate. Warning ticket stated that if I got stopped again within six months for the same infraction, I would get a real ticket for an equipment violation, and have to pay a fine.

I put the plate back on for six months (left the tint alone) - then took it off again, and haven't been bothered since.

I may have just been lucky, but this is just my experience. I think it boils down to - if you look suspicious and a cop needs an excuse to stop you, the plate (and the tint) give him perfect reason to. If you look normal and drive normal, they probably wont hassle you just for those things by themselves.

Just my observations.
