Question a friend is thinking of getting a 99' 3.2TL

a friend is thinking of getting a 99 3.2TL with 145K miles, and the asking prics i $11.6K. What are any known problems or anything they should look for on a car with such high miles, and what would be a good price for the car? thanks in advance.

Wow, 145k miles on a 99. I thought I had a lot of miles (52,000). Tell your friend that he can find a better deal on a TL w/a whole lot less of miles. Transmission problems have came up for the Tiptronic transmission, and I can start to feel my gears slip in 1st and 2nd. Though the problem is mostly among the 2000 and on models (5 speed transmission).

What would be reasonable miles on a 99 TL for $11.6K?

Well my car is a '99 as well w/52,000 miles on it. If you check on (www.kbb.com // Kelly's Blue Book); my car is worth about $15,000 for a dealer trade in and it's worth about $18,000 for a private trade in. For about $11,000 on a '99, a reasonable mileage would probably be anywhere from 60-80k miles. But that's just what I think. :p

Hell no. My 99 TL has 65k miles and is worth $18,155 in the blue book value.

The Blue book value of the car your friend wants to buy is $13,750 so $11k is a good price.

thank u. that's what a few other people came up with also. 60-80k miles didn't seem right.

but thats alot of damn miles, personally, i would not buy a vehicle, no matter what kind, with 145k miles on it.....

I think it'd be worth it to pay a little bit more for a TL with less miles, just for peace of mind.

Thumbs down

If the check engine light is, that isn't a good sign. Also, if it rumbles at idle, lol...

I saw it the day the dealership got it and was just curious how it sounded and the car started up rough and I played with it inside for about 5 minutes and just knew the car wasnt right. Yep the guy in the millenia is my fake brother, We both wanted a TL for the longest time. I have had mine for a year now and he cant wait to get a TL. I do know for a fact my man has told your friend not to buy the tl. I am posititve that tl has been abused. 145,000 miles in 3 years is a bit much. I have 38,000 miles on mine and its a 99 + The dealership she would buy the car from isnt the greatest. Tell her good luck but stay away from the 145,000 mile car .
