A friend bought an '02 TL-P...

I can't believe how much more luxurious/cushier the ride quality is compared w/ the Type S. The engine is quieter and more "lexus-like" I wish there could be an in between in terms of the ride quality of the Type S and the TL-P ...

Potholes disappear w/ that TL-P suspension,. whereas w/ the Type S.. you brace yourself as you approach them, cuz you'll feel it. Would putting Type S rims on a TL-P make the ride of the TL-P that much more harsh??

I don't think changing rims/wheels will change the quality of the ride. The harshness probably comes from the springs or stiffer suspension.

Actually, I did just the opposite as stated. TLP wheels on my CLS has made all the difference in the world as far as "cushy" ride quality is concerned. After driving an 02 TLP service loaner, I realized the CLS is just too damn stiff for my tastes.

My original intention was to use the TLP wheels/tires for winter only. But after having them on for about a week, they're on for good. They actually look good too!

Just my observation - Jim

Yeah, the wheels actually make the ride firmer. I even made my ride a bit more firmer by adding Comptech spring. I love the firm ride but there are times when I would rather take my parents lexus for the smooth ride. Both rides are completely different, but I rather drive mine.

I had a 2001 TL for a service loaner this past week. I still prefer my S for power and handling but prefer the P seats and ride over my own car. It's not that my ride is objectionably harsh, the TL-P just rides smoother. As far as the seats go, the P seats may be more comfortable but they also cram you 1" to 2" closer to the roof. I'm 6' tall and that makes the difference in hitting/not hitting the ceiling in my preferred driving position. The TL-P seats also don't have that brace that rubs the base of my spine quite so close to the surface. I had to readjust my seating position to get around that.

Only minor stuff, really. Give and take.

THIS IS AMAZING.

Who would have ever thought that TL Type S owners would be envious of the TL-P. This is unheard of.

I guess when you go with the more sportier version, there are sacrifices to be made. I am sure you all are much more happier buying the TLS, then the TL-P. I would be.

You really gain some headroom with the S? Damn, my hair rubs the roof in my wife's P.

I like the P otherwise. Has plenty of power for me. Plus we got the fake brown wood as apposed to the fake black wood in our Satin Silver.

RockingTLS was right about the seats. Not only seats in TL-P are softer, they are thicker(cushion)... at lowest seat position, the driver's height is still a inch or two higher than in TLS.... TL-P rides softer, definitely a better highway cruiser.... but I still prefer TLS, for its firm ride and power....
