Footwell Lighting Help

Hey guys. I've decided i need a project for the 6 weeks i have off from college. I want to intstall footwell lighting. Yes, i have done hrs of research on this in past threads. I'm going to put in neon tubes ....white neon tubes. CCFLs require inverters..don't really have room for that....and too complicated....and LEDs have too much of a concentrated beam of light.

I'd like to tap into the dome light fuse to have them come on (and off) to the dome lights. I know it's on the passenger side fuse box. Where can I buy the add-a-circuits for the fuse box?

Can i connect all the neon tubes together? I'm doing the rear also....just gonna zip tie these guys onto something....dunno yet about the location of the back ones.

I'd really appreciate any help. -peace

yes you can have all of the neons together...the add-a-circuit is sold at any automotive store: PepBoyz, Autozone, Strauss...etc...

I wouldnt recommend putting the neon tubes in the back, ppl with big feet tend to break those

good luck.

Let me tell you, the CCFLs are much easier to mount and everything. I have used both. IN the back seat? i stuffed it under there... isnt much room... I ended up taking it out from the back after a while though. The inverter is tiny.

ccfl install

sorry to invade on your thread, but since were basically on the same topic...can someone help me with ccfl footwell install? i never did anything electrical before...so lotsa help would be appreciated. what im trying to do is hook it up to go along with the dome light(without using a switch). here's a pic of my ccfl

i circled a few things to maybe clarify a bit easier?anyway i looked at the other DIY by hzm, but it's for neons so i don't want to mess anythign up.

do i need the wire taps or anything else i dont have(besides zip ties)?
plz tell me what to cut etc.
all i know is black= ground, red=hot
thx a bunch

wire taps can be used...
the yellow circle looks like the switch...
the blue/red circle you dont need unless you want to tap another ccfl into it....
from either the blue/red one you need the black and yellow wire (the black should be the one to the blue inverter) yellow to + and black to -

but in the case of the dome, u need the colors from hzm's DIY

yellow is always +
and black is only - when the door is open and + when door is closed.

i remember i think it might have been HZM, bought his stuff for $30....where could i buy the CCFLs you're talking about...or the ones in his pic?...and an inverter....there were ones i saw that said 10ft, 20ft, 50ft, etc..wat are the ft?...would the inverter be stuffed into the fusebox?

is there a way i could get a different kind of switch?...smaller one?....to turn them on without domes once in a while?

oh and i would need add-a-circuit for this right?

would CCFLs be as fragile as neon tubes for the back??

thanks....mostly i need to know what i buy so i can get started....then i'll try and figure it out....

what to buy as in CCFLs where, what kind of inverter, and add a circuit and stuff like that...thanks a lot.

There isnt enough slack on the inverter to stuff in the fusebox, I zipped tied the two ccfls together and the inverter into one bundle and then used a set for each side.

I bought mine from www.case-mod.com, they were the cheapest and I even still have some sitting around my house. Bought a bunch. It comes with a kit so you don't have to worry.

alright....that's what i mean...that looks awesome....a set for each side...

3 things...

1- what about the back....i'd like to at least attempt it...

2- what wires will i need in excess for the rear to run them to the passenger side fuse box.

3- i will be able to program these to come on and off with dome lights right?

so i'm good to buy these bad boys.....

oh yeah, and what's the difference between these?...don't want them to be too bright..

thats a horrible way of doing it...your battery should never have anything besides its positve and negative terminals, and maybe an amp connectted to it..

i feel bad for those 50 cars u did it on, No Offense

They didnt have the other ones back when I had ordered.

1- what about the back....i'd like to at least attempt it...
run then to the back via the door sills

2- what wires will i need in excess for the rear to run them to the passenger side fuse box.
just extra 20 guage or 18 guage wire.. nothing big or special

3- i will be able to program these to come on and off with dome lights right?

I wouldnt want to hook up the neons directly to the battery unless you want them to be on even when the car is off but there is nothing wrong with using your car battery.

yes
so to do the front and back....i'd say i need at least 4 kits?...or maybe use 1 per side on the back....that what i think.

alright just bought the kits....i bought 5....dunno why....

i'd LIKE to be able to control them manually....you think it's sensible to mount FOUR switches to light each one individually? if it's possible to begin with??

i should have em by the end of the week. i'll let you guys know how it goes. thanks. -peace

well depends on how u hook it up. if it is just connecting those molex connectors they go in series i believe it has been a while. you can make 1 switch for all 4 if put into the right location.

sup guys, i got my CCFLs yesturday, i went out to see what i could do (sorta unprepared) i noticed i'm gonna need add-a-circuits?....but i'm wondering if it'll fit....these are small fuses...it's the RED 7.5 to the left.

so my questions are..

1) I need to know how to tap into that fuse....

2) Any ideas on how to run the wires for 4 sets all around the car?....i'm going to try to run from driver to pass on the front sets but dunno if i can get through the console.....and the back.

I wonder if auto parts stores sell add-a-circuit....

thanks for the help. -peace

I didnt use add-a-circuit. The power comes from two pins on that harness you see in that pic. That is the passenger side right?

Yes auto stores sell the add-a-circuit. You need the mini one.

Yes you can get thru the back.... right in the far back.

ah okay, so according to that, the positive wire coming from the lights get connected to the white wire with blue line....

the negative to the black wire with white line....

two things......

why not connect the negative to a ground bolt in the fuse panel?

this would be a lil bit different because of me having CCFLs instead of neons. i still have to figure out how to mount them to utylize that switch to control all 4 sets.

You dont connect it to a ground bolt because it would be ON all the time even when the doors is closed. This system works like this... +12V to +12V when the dome lights are off.

that tap point where i'm gonna attach the + CCFL wire, is that before or after the fuse?.....if 8 CCFLs overload it, i'm not gonna fry my wiring right? someone here said with 4 sets their fuse kept blowing.
