Foglight Repair

hey guys,

I just ordered a HID kit for my fog lights, i did the lexan conversion years ago but it looks pitted there seems to be water getting into the foglight. Some of the "chrome" is starting to flake off. Im wondering if anybody ever tried that Dupli Color Chrome Paint on the housing? Does it work? Is there some other type of paint that might work. I would probably sand the housing first and apply a few layers of that paint, and finish them off with some brand new lexan.

Hey buddy, you could give that dupli-color paint a shot...Since HIDs don't give off as much heat as the halogens (which melt the housing or lens - seen it). You shouldn't worry about any heat affecting the paint. As long as you do proper prep and layer the paint well it should hold up fairly well. A layer of clear wouldn't hurt either.

hey man. i took a look at the fogs and the paint is chipping on maybe 10% of the fog light, its more on the edges so i didnt repaint them. I picked up a sheet of lexan and some clear silicone and just made my own fog light lens. Just waiting for them to dry. It turned out pretty good.

here is some before and after pics:

Before

After

So it turned out pretty great, cost about 10 bucks for the Lexan sheet. I could probably make another set from whats leftover. Now im just waiting for my 6000K DDM low beam kit and 6000K DDM HID fog lights

Seriously man, follow his lead and DIY. It's really not that hard at all.

yea it was pretty easy, all you need is:

-sheet of lexan ($10) or order pre cut ones from ebay ($50)
-band saw, reciprocating saw
-silicone
-file

took about an hour to do

hmm, well i have glass lenses with the 3M film from weathertech.com for over 5 years now and my lenses are still clear. normal road pitting but nothing near what your pics show. The weather tech has a slight gap around the outer edge ( I think to help dissipate heat better) but a big ass piece of something hit my lens and hit the lens, creating a circular pit at the bottom of the glass, but the film is sealing the lens and not leaking or affecting the light at all, so i am a true believer in the headlight film. This was either a chunk of tire or plastic but i hit it going about 80mph on the interstate..saw it bouncing in the road and had now way to avoid it, but it hit right on that right foglight and saw the glass cracked..but again, no leaks since the film is sealing the glass...i'm sure with no protection, that glass would of shattered out big time
