Foglight to HID question...

Sorry guys, I know this is a constant topic but I did a search and could find DIY directions. I'm toying with the idea of converting the fogs to HIDs...going to stick with the 4300K like the headlights. I'd rather have the brightness over the look. I've located bulbs that have the 9006 base (haven't bought them yet) but am not sure what to do from there. I knwo to get either the Hella or Philips balasts but will any balast work with these bulbs? Also how would I go about connecting to the stock wire harness without frying it since HIDs require more power that the stock bulbs?

Any help or links to directions is much appreciated.

Yep, pretty much any ballast will work but hella and philips have a better reliability record. Check out xenondepot.com. They use philips ballast and 9006 4300k bulb. The whole kit is plug and play.

Someone on this forum bought it and liked the setup. You could give the a call and confirm it.

Good luck

If you got a # I can explain all this. Basically any ballast to any bulb as long as the connectors fit.

It works more power JUST for a little... but over time it does damage the wiring. It happened to a friend after like 3 years at 15 hours a wk? maybe.... 20 at most... Use a relay and everything to make it work. Some kits come with the setup. Or $15 and make yourself one.

SlyTLS,
You should be able to piecemeal everything for less than a kit would cost. If you go with 9006 rebased bulbs, you will also be able to get stock ballasts should your ballast ever blow. Rebased 9006 should run less than $100. A couple of new ballasts would be around $200. A wiring harness with relay can be had for $30-$50. Good luck!

Yup what he said. For HID kits that bit into the 02/04 fogs... the best place to mount it is under the OEM ballast. Usually the connectors will be long enough to reach where the bulbs are on the fog light housing.

Most ballasts that you will find have the D2 connector and the 9006 rebased bulbs should have the D2 connector as well.
