Question Fog Light Replacement/Upgrade Question

I am looking to upgrade my Foglights on my TL-S. I have read some of the old posts on what other owners use. I have decided on the "CATZ 9006" Galaxy White models. I found them on autobulbdepot.com. They are 110W and are 58.45$ for a pair. The site states that they are very close to true HID. So, I figured they will match much better than the original ones even if they are not identical.

My question is do any of you have any other suggestions for replacement fog bulbs? If so, what and where did you get them and for how much? Also, how easy were they to install as the 9006 apparently just pop right in and require no mods or anything to work.

Your responses are appreciated.
Thanks-

well first of all, i think it says the CATZ 9006 works like 110W? i truly hope it's not running at 110W, coz' our fog light base can only handle 51W, and you don't wanna put a true 110W fog in it.

i have the piaa platinum white and it's 51W. on the box it says it works like 110W so that's why i think it's what said on the CATZ 9006 too.

another fog that people say are close to the hid is the piaa plasma. it's NOT the platinum white you find on this site, it's 60W and it's even "whiter". people say it's very close to the hid. my platinum white is much better than the fogs but still not very close to the hid.

the process of changing bulb is very easy, just read the manual, unscrew a screw, pop out the fog light starting from the inside (closer to the grill), change the bulb, pop it in and screw it back, and boom you are done. just make sure you DO NOT touch the bulbs with your bare hands or any greese.

Hey TedV, I'm waiting for the sylvania silverstar's that should be out anytime now. On there web site www.sylvania.com they say it's 4000K color temp and HID is 4100-4200K so they are supposed to be real damn close. I haven't tried them yet cuz there not out yet but when they are I will post.

so you have the piaa platinum white ones? Are those pretty close to the HID's? I just picked up my TLs today and am going to upgrade the fogs.

hey busterkw, we are both in the bay area! i can understand that, it's a great car but if you really want a close match between the hid and the fogs, go with the plasma or other stuff like the sylvania. mine is better but not close but on the other hand i don't wanna go out of spec either

Question Further Questions

I will have to look into the PIAA Plasmas you are talking about. I do not need the Fogs to be a perfect match. BUT, certainly want them much closer than what comes stock with the car. However, the 60 watt rating concerns me as compared to the 51 watt I have been looking at. OR does that not matter?

One other question is that the CATZ fogs I was inquiring about are stated as being for off-road only and are not DOT approved. Does this mean I am risking my cars safety by possibly using them or what??????????

well, quite a few members on the forum are using the plasma and i *think* so far they are still ok. i have yet to hear people with burned bulbs or the base. i didn't ge the plasma coz' i didn't wanna go out of spec, but i don't know how bad the 60W are on our 51W light base.

well, when it says it's not DOT approved, basically what it means is that a cop can pull you over and give you a ticket coz' either the color or the light intensity are not legal on the street. technically it has nothing to do with your car so it won't hurt your car, but it could be another attraction for cops.

I have had the PIAA Plasmas since July and I love them. From about 25 feet they match very, very well. Up close they aren't perfect but I think they are the best you can get. As you walk by them they do through off a small purple tint but I am very happy with my purchase. I think I paid a lot for them though, like $110 maybe but I'm not sure. PIAA does not sell these lights in the US but don't worry.

I personally bough the Catz Galaxy whites myself. They matched better then the PIAA Superwhites (compared them side to side) and I didn't feel like spending $110 or more for the Plazmas.....

so if you use the piaa superwhites for the high beams and the catz galaxy whites do they ruin the wiring? Like will it melt anything or cause any problems that will need to be fixed? sorry for my lack of knowledge. i want to change them both but don't wanna ruin my new car in the process. Thanks!
