any one has removed the circle part in the fog light?

im putting lexan in place of my cracked glass and painting the fog light ssm since my chrome is messed up from corrosion. i remember seeing a guy that took one side out and left the other side in but dont remember if it gave more output and or how it looked when lit.

i believe that is a glare shield or perhaps a heat shield at the same time to protect the housing. In fact, I wish the front of that shield was closed so my HID fog bulbs don't blind people since there is no ceramic tip on the bulb like the 9006 halogen bulb. I may get some high heat ceramic black paint and paint the tip of my HID bulb to minimize that glare

That shield is for glare. I took both of mine out. My HID fogs give out a little twinkle effect and they are atleast 50% wider now! Whenever trailer trucks pass by me, I can see my foglight lighting up the whole side of the truck.
