i think even 20 ga is fine... 16 or 18 is also ok. 10 ga is probably thicker than needed

Which buttons? The fog light back light or the green button when the fogs are on? Check to see if the bulbs are loose.

both the fog back light and the green....well i've been havingproblems with the green on the fog, it would sometimes stay off and some times on. and after i did the mod my cruise control green light would take like 5 minutes to turn on after i start the car or just no turn on at all...im gonna take the harness out again to see if the bulbs are loose...but got any ideas?

for all of u who are having problems finding diodes, u could just run the power to the ignition harness rather than the fuse panel right???????? and how do u go about keeping the fogs running when the high beams are on. Ill probly try and mess with it tom. Ill let u all know if i figure anything out

You only have to remove the lower part of the dash, the piece that is right above your knee. 2 screws and all that is left holding it is some clips. Once you do that, you can put your hand back there and pop the switch out with some effort.

I've havent looked at the wiring diagram in a while so i dont know if w/o the diode is needed.

I think for the fogs, there is one wire off the fog light harness that you have to cut and connect to ground so that when the high beams are ON that it doesnt open the circuit to the ground.

I never looked or I just dont recall, do the low beam HIDs turn off if you turn the HIGH beams ON ?

Any one should do, nothing specific that it has to be.

1n7004 or i think it was 1n4004, we just need it to stop current from flowing backwards.

add-a-circuit was at autozone or pepboys, you dont have to use that add-a-circuit if you want to tap it behind the fuse box.

Just want to say that I did this mod this weekend and it was PERFECT. Everything you outlined was great and the MOD itself took me 20 minutes. All my parts were found at Pep-Boys and Radioshack. I love it. Thanks again for a great detailed writeup. I will post my pics once I know how to post them.

Need help...

Hey everyone, I am new and I need some help. I just bought a 2003 TL, and the headlights are UltraBlue, but the highbeams, and the fog lights are normal. I tried to buy some UltraBlue lamps to replace them so that they all match, but nothing looks blue or even really bright white. Any suggestions? I appreciate it. Also, any simple mods that I can do to get a bit more HP?

fundesign, congrats... the headlight that ur claiming as "ultrablue" is actually HIDs... and no halogen bulb can match that....fortunetly , u can get HID fogs... (wil cost u about 260$ CDN) , as for highbeams, u have no choice, but to put one of those very bright white xenon bulbs but thats about it...

as for a bit more HP.. depends on ur budget... if u have a TLS, u can bring it to around 300 if u put in the bolt ons.. if u have a TLP .. u can bring it around as fast as the TLS (if not faster, since u won't have VSA, and as long as u hold the wheel tight, ur TL should burn out faster) ..

plus unreliable neways, only good for its gadgets and handling...

i'm plannin to do the fog light mod the next time i meet Volly since he did it and its better to do it with someone who has already done it....

on the other note has any one tested the auto off on the fog lights?? like if the head lights are in the off position and you leave the car 15 sec and they shut off??

Yes they do shut off along with the headlights.... pretty much (if u didnt' do the mod or did it correctly) .. the fogs will work the same way as the headlights.... as long as they are on.. (even during the alarm activate sequence), the fogs will remain on..

Any benefit/negative from using a 3 amp diode vs. a 1 amp diode?

(not my car, I also did the mod but I don't have any pics of it)

Keep in mind those are 3000K HID fogs, and it looks like he did the foglight mod where the parking lights are on with the fogs, but with the DIY in this thread the fogs can be turned on without the lowbeams or the parking lights.

parking lights are only on cause that how i wired the lights on the spoiler to turn on. BUt the foglight mod i did is the one where they can be on regardless of the parking light switch being on.

yes, as long as the key is in the ignition and turn to acc or start, since in the diy you tap the acc fuse

I just did on my wife 03 TL.
Took me only 5 minutes.
But i just switch the white/red wire and the red/black wire.
You don't have to tied them together.
And work perfect.
You can turn your fog light on just with the parking lights on, without the headlights.
