Fog light mod (Alternate version)
This is for the 02/03 TL Models.
Here is the pinout/wiring color code for the fog light switch for the 02/03 models.
I had tested the states of these wires under the following conditions:
Blue w/ Red stripe = +12V when button is pushed and headlights are on
Whie w/ Red stripe = +12V when headlights are on
Red w/ Black stripe = +12V when parking lights are on
Provided by Pianoman41
1. White/Blue - Ground side of indicator light (green light that shows fogs are on)
2. Blue/Red - Power to passenger side footwell relay
3. White/Red - Power from headlight switch
4. Red/Black - Power from taillight relay
5. Red - Connection to dash light brightness controller
Now the fog light mod has the white/red and the red/black tied together. I assume that by hooking these two together, it fakes the switch into thinking that the headlights are on so that you can turn on the fogs. NOW! What if you want the fog lights on without the parking lights on??
Would the solution be to supply the white/red wire (headlight switch) +12Vs? Possibly from a source that is HOT when the key is in the ignition?? Will the white/red wire be enough or will the red/black wire also have to be supplied 12Vs?
One more question, if that solution suggested above works, should diodes be inserted?

Well it is done, and it works. So it works without the parking lights and it doesn't flash with the parking lights when you unlock the car like the original mod did if you left the fog lights on.

Just give the White/Red wire +12Vs. I gave it +12Vs from the fuse box that gets power when the key is in the ignition. It just fakes the switch into thinking that the headlights are on when the key is in the ignition. Before, the Red/Black wire is +12Vs with parking lights to illuminate the button.
I used a wire tap into the and ran a wire to this add-a-circuit (thick red wire) i had in the fuse box for the footwell lighting just to test for now. I'll find a more permanent location soon.

I like this way better, by doing this mod, there are two pluses. One is that you have a choice in weather you want the parking lights on/off with your fogs, and if your heart desires that, just switch them on. Second, I often forget to turn the fog light switch off and when I lock and unlock my doors the dam fogs blink on and off. And since I have HID's thas unnecesary wear on the Ballast. So this mod would eliminate that problem too. To me its, the way to go!! Good Job Bxscig!!

At least now I can choose to have it on with my parking lights and not with headlights on.
Also liek NYDESI80, I wouldn't want to have it pulse on and off like that when unlocking (if they are left on) especially with HIDs in there. I don't think it can be healthy for it.

Super old but updated... works better than it did before. Now you can have your fogs on and crank w/o them shutting off.
Instrumental Panel Fuse # 9 Driver side to Add-a-circuit to diode to white/red wire on the harness on the fog light switch.
You could also use these for DRLs if you like since the parking lights dont come on with it.

Actually even before if you like, u need to get the mini add-a-circuit, and a diode. i would need an outlet too probably but I could always bring an inverter.

P.S. You really know your Shyt.
Pics of your fuse box and harnse if you can. Thanks!

Bxscig, could you please post pics of your fuse box and harness? Because I followed your instruction and lost when you said something about an outlet and an inverter. I haven't have any mod to my foglight so if you will, could you explain in details the mod please? Thank you.
By the way, your mod is cool.

was meant that i could bring an inverter in the car so i can solder the wires together at the meet.
The mod is basically, add the add-a-circuit to fuse for instrumental panel (i believe fuse #9) and then add a diode with the silver strip pointing away from the fuse box then a wire from that to the fog light harness (white/red) wire.

I'll try to post the pictures some where else but basically here is the shopping list
radio shack:
those red taps, i believe like 4 for $0.98
diodes, i believe it says 7004 or something like 4004 and comes in a package of 2 for about $0.75
auto-store:
autozone seems to have the cheaper prices for me
green/black package, MINI-add-a-circuit for about $7 and it comes with a bunch of little fuses.
wire crimper from some where

Peace, Jeff
BTW bxscig can you post pics of the fuse box so I can see the hook up
thanks

I did Elegant's car today and here are some pictures that I took for the install.
This is what a diode looks like and how it works, current only flows from Anode to Cathode, the silver bar shows you which is the cathode side.
That is my diode connected to some wire to the left and to the right (Anode and Cathode sides) with some shrink wrap over it. Electrical tape will be fine as well. I had soldered it but you can just twist it together.
Here it is connected to the MINI add-a-circut crimped to the Anode side of the wire to the blue thing. I used a 3 AMP fuse, probably more than needed but it is fine. Notice where it is added, the instructions of the add-a-circuit will explain.
This is the fog light switch harness and swtich. I had to undo the original fog light mod and taped up the two wires.
Just another shot
Driver side Fuse panel before I remove anything.
Drive side Fuse panel after I remove the fuse #9 instrumental panel slot. The one below it is the ACC one. Both are 7.5 Amps.
With the removed fuse I just place it into the other slot of the add-a-circuit. Again the instructions of the add-a-circuit will explain.
The add-a-circuit installed into the fuse box. I just plugged it back into the fuse #9 slot. Just that easy.
Close up!
The other side now of the diode, Cathode side, now you just use a tap to tap into white/red wire which was used originally for the first fog light mod. So you crimp the black wire extended from the cathode side of the diode to the white/red wire.
Close up of how it is crimped together.
Now you are done!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The diode is just to prevent the the fogs from powering ur instrumental panel even after u remove the key.
I had it happen to me a few times when I used to have it attached to slot #8, the ACC/Radio because when the radio is on and the fogs are on once the key is out..... the radio remains on.

hey bxscig, what are the specs of the diode, first of all The Source (formerly known as Radio Shack) doesn't have any, the lead you gave me goes to the guys voice mail so I've found another source and they are asking me the specs and I don't know them they have a bunch in stock but I want to buy the right one, if you can let me know, much appreciated

thanks, I checked the Source as well and werd they suck, I didn't think that getting a diode would be so difficult , I made a few phone calls and possibly have a line on one hopefully thanks for your help Bxscig

Thanks but not necessary I finally found an electronics place that know their shit and got the .75cent diode. I'll post pictures once I install the 6000K HID kit that I ordered today . Thanks for helping out an electronics noob, much appreciated.
