fog light HID conversion kit: wholesaler found

hey everyone, i've been on the lookout for HID kits for our fog lights, and since there are a few people (me included) that want to buy a kit in the near future, i thought i'd show you this wholesaler to see what you think....

i also have one question: if i buy 8000k HID bulb from two different places, the color SHOULD be exactly the same right? or if i buy a kit 8000k vs the bulbs i changed for my headlights, they should match if they're all 8000k right?

lemme know what you think about the wholesellers.

SHOULD match or slighty off.... some of the 8000ks are blue tint over the bulbs and some dont. If they have the tint, there is less lumes.

Really check with the brands. I have seen some cheap korean ones go bad, another one I saw with good life was the K2 MAX ones...

That site isn't that cheap... I wanted to buy the X5 HID and the total came to $378.95. They wanted $19.95 for shipping and like $24 for tax. It's an online company, nobody charges taxes online. I'm gonna try Ebay.

IF they have a presence in the state that you are in they have to charge sales tax. Unless they just wanted to take it as extra income but I think that would be illegal.

alright so i either with the HIDking Kit for 399, or the one just mentioned for 299....no it has no tint on the bulb, it's a standard HID bulb.

NDAWOOD- might be ghetto, but all i need is the 9006 kit....and they have it...

fogs with HID will actually lower the visability in heavy fog doesn't it?

it's better with yellow in color right?

I have read that yellow does nothing. I have driven in fog and I do not notice lower visibility.

Every where really... I dont know any good brand for 8000k except for MAX K2... which used to be available from www.midnightmoose.com but every since the ban they stopped.

You might be better trying to get some used ballasts and buy a set of bulbs just like you did for your headlights. I know a guy that professionally rebases his bulbs... I think he gets it done some where but I dont know how much he charges to rebase to 9006.

If you want *true* fog lights, then yes - yellow is the best you can do. It will provide you with the best visibility in dense fog since it will cut through the mist. White light reflects the most during foggy conditions, so a lot of the light will just bounce back at you. Most people here really use their "fogs" as driving lights though...not for use based on weather conditions...more for looks.

If you buy seperate parts, and watch the auctions I think the most that you will save is $100 on average. IF you find a really good deal, then maybe more but it is hard to save more than $100. So like $200 is the bottom line.

alright so, ANY ballast will work for this? and what about the connections....doesn't each kit have it's own connectors or are the connectors for all ballast to HID bulb wiring the same?....it would be easier and cheaper to buy em seperately.

as long as it's not a headache buying them separately, then i'm all for it. what do you think?

EDIT: what specs should i look for in a ballast (if any?) ?

EDIT2: I'm also noticing that the wire length from the ballasts to the bulbs isn't more than a foot....is there a way to make them longer? (Ex. mount ballast in engine bay, run wires to fog lights).

I have helped ppl just basically cut the wires and crimp them together. At first I thought so too but basically, any bulb to any ballast. There are 24V ballasts out there which are for trucks.... 12Vs is for our cars.

There are bulbs with longer wires and some with shorter. The positive wire is much thicker than the negative wire off the bulb.

I have mine right under my OEM ballasts. I have put it in the metal bar behind the bumper too. I personally haven't extended the wires... only thing I did was recrimp the connectors after cutting the old one off.

$299 for a Philips 4300k is possible and average and it is a good price. Is it bad quality or something ?

The Philips D2R bulbs were about $235 over a year ago and then the price went up. They cost much more than 4300Ks though. $4300ks, you can find for like $100 for two.... Philips of course.

what do you think of these?

my main problem is how long will the ballasts last?....i'm hoping at least a year...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW

this brand isn't japanese....i've heard japanese brand ballasts aren't good quality & don't last long...correct?

I thought that one is Korean... from what I heard is that expect to replace parts in a year. I hear bad things about it but there are a few good stories so They are cheaper though.

alright, reviving this thread....after numerous posts, i've learned a lot about the HIDs, ballasts, and lighting. thanks now that i'm going to proceed to installation soon, i'd like to know where to mount the ballasts in the bumper. I am not going to remove the bumper. i'm going to have to jack it up or ramp it, and remove the underbody panels and do it like that.....if that's impossible, i'll have to take it to my mechanic and use his lift or something....

on this ebay auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting)
check out the ends of the black wires ,where the bulbs go.....what plugs into there?....do they fit ALL bulbs?

And do i need an igniter/starter?? what's that all about and where does it go?

what's also a good price to pay for two ballasts such as this? i really appreciate it.
