Flush Tranny due to bad pressure switch
Flush Tranny due to bad pressure switch
Had a bad 4th gear pressure switch, replaced under warranty, dealer recommends flushing tranny as they claim it is recommended by Acura. Sounds a bit overkill to me, what do you think??
Thanks
Thanks
the acura owners book misleadingly calls a 3x3 manual fluid change- a ~flush~
and if you read closely, we have not been doing it right!
after 3 full drain and refills.. a 4th fill takes place
We have been doing it as the 3rd fill is the final one
Acura says to do that ~flush~ if you ever had to add dex3 in an emergency as they are not ok to mix
With the known clutch wear problems and you having a bad pressure switch, its a fair thing to change out the trans fluid- it must be dirty to kill a pressure switch
On the newer cars they are saying every 30k miles
Some guys are doing a basic 3qt drain and refill while others trust the 3x3 to keep the trans in better shape either every 15 or 30k miles
If you are still under the extended trans warranty and the dealer says to ~flush~ the trans, by all means do it right away- the trans will probably fail in less than a month and you get a freebie replacement- thats like getting half a new car!

What do you mean by this? My warranty is up May 19th. I am assuming the flush is not really needed. Is flushing just a precaution so they can't say I didn't maintain properly if it fails in the next 3 months?
in this case Kris- Acura replaced the pressure switch and must have found really dirty fluid so they said to do their ~flush~ (manual drain and fill)
I would do it at home, keep the receipt and wait for failure to occur

No its not a precaution or way to deny you coverage- you need to keep fresh fluid in all the parts of the car- radiator- power steering, brakes, engine oil, trans fluid
Cmon man you have been a member here since 2005 and you havent read any pages off the tranny failiure thread?
These things are like bic lighters. goes into gear 5000 times... then one day- click click click and nothing

Keep the receipts for the HONDA ZR1 atf
a good rinsing out of old fluid and loosened clutch material, combined with new slippery fluid should have you in a loaner within a month
