First Zaino Experience...

Ok, looks like we're *finally* going to have some relatively dry weather for the next few days, and with the holiday, its time for me to do my first Zaino "install" at 2,400 miles.

Gave the car a good Dawn cleaning this morning, dried it off completely, and applied the pre-gloss head to toe. It's now sitting in the garage waiting for the next step for tomorrow morning - four hours have gone by, and no haze yet :-)

Question

Pre-gloss? Do you mean the pre-polish lock, right before the first coat of the polish? I don't think you wait for a haze on that one. You put on the pre-polish and then once you are done, start immediately with the polish. Then, you wait for that to dry for an hour, then wipe off...spray the polish renew on, wipe it down. Wait 24 hours....repeat the polishing step 2 more times to get a real deep wet look.

Hey Xorg,

It should be dry in 4 hours. Hopefully you used a very little bit of Z1. It doesn't take much.

I say go Z2/Z5 my friend. Have a great time.

I'm off to go do coat #26 of Z2. My car slides into the garage now.

Post Zaino

Ummm, the Z-1 really doesn't haze up....Its kind of hard even to see where you put it on at...It should be ready for the Z-2 right after its applied....

The fact that you put Z-2 right after the Z-1 means it might take some time to dry.....mine was ready in less than an hour.Others have said its taken half a day depending on humidity and temp. Out here in cali its hot as hell right now! I could make some eggs over easy on my hood, wouldn't stick either cuz I have 4 coats of Z-2 on. hehheh

IMO I would not wait overnight to put the Z-2 on, chances are your going to collect dust and you don't want to apply Z-2 over a layer of dust. aka swirl marks

Yeah, I may have confused them :-)

No dust in the garage, its pretty clean, so I'll apply the final polish first thing tomorrow.

So tomorrow morning all I have to do is buff the car!

Thumbs up

Ok, I'm a believer!

Got up this morning and buffed the car down - SWEET!

This is by far the easiest wax/polish I've ever worked with, I was simply stunned at how easy it came off, even the minor excess that made it onto the trim and windows buffed right off!

The multi-step process sounded like a apin, but the stuff goes on and comes so easy, its not that bad.

The shine is quite nice, meets or exceeds any wax I've used. Next week I'll put on the second application :-)

Good luck Xorg. Make sure you remember, no more Dawn. It'll strip everything you did.

What do you use to take off the residue? I use a microfiber towel and I'll tell you, I'll never go back to bath towels. These things work great.

What kind of microfiber and where did you get it? I used an old and "certified" 100% cotton bath towel.

I bought the Viper towel from Classic Motoring Accessories

http://www.properautocare.com/vipmicappad.html

They are amazing. Learned a good tip. Whichever microfiber towel you buy, before you go out and use it, do the CD test.

Take an old CD and, on the laser side, the side without the label, rub across the cd back and forth with the same amount of pressure you'd use to remove the residue from Zaino. If it scratches the CD, return it immediately.

The Viper towel did not scratch at all.

I finally did it

I woke up at 9:00 this morning and immediately checked the weather report. 80 and sunny, 50% humidity. I decided to get out there and start the Zaino process. Here's what I did:

1)Washed the car with Dawn and dried it
2)Used Mother's Clay bar (didnt feel like going through the mail order process for a Zaino bar) on most of the car (especially the front and sides)
3)Washed the car with Dawn again and dried it again.
4)Moved the car to the shade and applied Z1. You can hardly see the stuff when it is on, so it is a bit of a guessing game.
5)Applied Z5 right after. This goes on like any other polish/wax.
6)Moved the car into the sun.

7) Wait for it to dry. I checked it after about an hour and it was dry. I found something else to do and let it dry for another hour though, just to play it safe.

8) Wiped it off with a cotton towel. It came off EASY. I couldn't believe it.
9) Used the Z6 gloss enhancer spray on the entire car. This took about 10 minutes.

The car looks GREAT, and I didn't even apply the Z2 yet, which is supposed to be the REALLY shiny polish. Being that it says to wait at least 6 hours before applying the next coat, I will be applying the Z2 tomorrow morning.
I hope to take pics of my Zaino'd silver TL-s tomorrow to show the rest of you. Right now it looks like it did when i drove it off the lot. Can't wait to see what the Z2 will do.

More to come.....

Question Tag66

Why did you use z-5? Did you have scratches on your TLS?

why z5?

I used z5 becuase after claying and washing the car, I did notice a few fine scratches, especially on the front. Probably due to small rocks, gravel, etc, from the road. AFter using one coat of the Z5, those minor blemishes were gone. Those few scratches and just the piece of mind that came along knowing that it probably filled any scratches that I might not have noticed is why I did it. I figured take the time and do it right the first time. Now I can just keep up with additional Z2 coats when necessary.

I just Zaino washed and put another layer on - I'm hooked! The results are amazing and I'm still simply floored at how easy the stuff buffs off!

I was also impressed because I simply washed some dang bird crap off completely with just a hose! No wiping with anything!
