Talking Finally hit 145 ...

Just wanted to let you guys know I hit 145+ on saturday ...i was doing 120 ...most i had ever done, then I kept gunning it, I was in 4th the whole time from 120 to 145 (I know it was def. around 145 ...i didnt want to crash by looking at my speedometer to get the exact speed) or so. Couldn't really make it 148 to test the electronically limited speed theory since I came to my senses and slowed down. btw I was driving my 2003 tLS full stock ...can't wait to mod after this ....and then really let it go ...... (or maybe not) ?

Doesn't the car automatically shift from 4th to 5th at around 110?

Nope.

Well...it depends. If you leave it in D5 and floor it, it would stay @ 4th. You could also leave it in SS @ 4th. Either way, the theoretical maximum top speed of 4th gear is somewhere in the 180'ish.

Duh - that's right. I was thinking of the 3rd to 4th upshift.

limiter is at 147mph / 244.9 km/hr and the 4th gear isn't finished yet!!! holy crap!! be careful,
Here in toronto, most likely where you guys are too, there is what we call "Highways" I can understand hitting 245km on a highway, but if you don't have a $3000 BREMBO BRAKES and suspension up the wazzoo. Don't be doing speeds like that on a side street or a country road, that car is not made for handling at that speed. Check out fsttyms1 videos, (there is a link in the second post on this page, not the "top speed video" check his others there is a vid where he is flying around corners like a F1 driver ), I'm sure he has tons of MODS on his TL, still he tires are squealing like a pig going around some of thoes corners.

I don't agree with all of the stuff in the videos but it's not my place to bitch, and I don't think anyone wants to hear on-line bitching, I downloaded the videos anyway, They were sooo cool, just glad he doesn't live in my neibourhood!! just pullin your chain fsttyms1.

hey i dont do it in neighborhoods! i reserve that for country roads that i know, and roads with out cars. and the occasional trip to Road America

oh and i had both hands on the wheel (after 110) the car is pretty stable at those speeds (compared to others i have drive at those)
oh and if you didnt you can right click and full screen the videos there pretty decent quality (that way you dont have to watch the littl vid

The most I was able to get up to was 110 .

I look for a nice straightaway and gun it, but as soon as I see one of those inlets in the middle of the road where cops hide I am forced to slow it down.

Oh to be on the Autobahn.....

Car handled just as smooth at 110 as it does at 65. My previous cars would start shaking violently as soon as you got to 90 or so.

I've hit the limiter, but its not till the spedometer needle gets a bit past 150 before it cuts off. What's wierd is that the TL-S actually seems to accelerate hard AFTER 140......guess its the VTEC finally overpowering the WAY TO TALL 4th gear!

The car handled fine, cuz I wasn't going in a straight line at around 120, it was surprisingly stable, no rattles, no shakes ..... I hit 145 in a straight line tho. So at 145 would it have handled crappily in curves, cant really say ....

Oh also, I felt like the car had a lot more left in it, at 145 ...I could have gotten more in the 4th (I was in sport shift). Next time will probably be on a race track, way too scary on the highway cuz the cars in front of me got closer real quick, but its such a rush, its great. I love this car!!

Yeah, the car can definitely go higher than the regulated top speed. But we all know that Honda likes to play everything safe.

I've hit 145 a few times. To be honest, I was completely at ease, and so was the car. She felt flat, and I could communicate with the road. Even when I changed lanes at 140+, she was riding perfectly fine. No unpleasant surprises. Our cars are very confidence-inspiring.

My buddy riding shotgun was holding onto the oh-shit-handle after I hit 100... by 140, his knuckles were getting white. :lol1:

that was like my passenger taping my vid (post #2) you can here him start to panic at the end of the straight yelling isnt that a stop sign ahead, and then you can see how fast i stoped and how much time we had to slow down

J/K J, NOT! :p come on, you can do 120 stock!!! seriously though, i didn't start pinning the TL down in the 130's and 140's until my car's suspension system was worked, + high performance tires etc... and also on long stretches of empty freeway! note: a deer will kill you doing 55 mph or 155mph! and there have been so many accidents on the autobahn ( more frequent in the last few years) that the german gov is considering making speed limits!

Imagine if he had a type-S, and performance tires, and suspension mods?

It was an awesome video and it was all in a 4-door luxury sedan and not a sports car. This drives home what kind of car it is. And to top it off, this car still runs with lots of miles on it....

OOPS, made a boo-boo there, hit quote instead of edit, sorry for the double post folks!

But whatever you do, guys, do it all in a straight line, and keep both hands on the wheel and NO ALCOHOL, so you can make it back to your PC and tell us all about it.

Keep safe..................

i've done 140-141mph on my '99TL, full stock... Just so you all know, cars at this speed "floats" over the road, the wheel will feel like 30mph, it doesnt matter how many hands you have on the wheel , just dont turn it, otherwise you'll find out what 100broken bones feels like.

I do have some v-rated TOYOs on my rims though. i woulda gotten there a lot faster if i had a 5speed tranny!

um.. im not sure about that.. the 4th and 5th gear of the 5sp tranny are both overdrive... i think the acceleration would be similar.
