Finally a fix for trunk rattling

So i spoke to a technician from Acura today, and he finally figured out why some TL's have this problem and others don't. It has nothing to do with whether you have a spoiler on your car or not. Basically the problem is half the TL's were shipped out with the rubber stoppers on the trunk screwed in fully (the one's with the rattle), and the other half are adjusted half way down (don't have the rattle). To fix this, it will take you a matter of about 15 seconds. When you open the trunk you will notice 2 rubber stoppers. They are located directly under where it would say "3.2TL" or "3.2TL Type S". They look more or less like a screw, about 1/2 inch in diameter, and with enough force can be turned clock-wise or counter clock-wise. The reason it will stop the rattle is because the more these rubber knobs stick out, the less bouncing around the trunk will do, as these rubber stoppers will secure them closed. Your trunk latch is what holds the trunk down, but these rubber stoppers puts more force upwards, which essentially makes the whole trunk lid tight. Trust me, this is the fix for it!!!

Now, Turn it counter clockwise to loosen it. If you want to be sure that the trunk will not rattle at all, basically remove the rubber stopper, by twisting hard enough, and then put it back in. Once you feel that it's twisted in enough so that it won't fall out, you're ready to go. Try to make the heights for both rubber stoppers approximately the same so they are not uneven. BTW forgot to add, there are two rubber stoppers total. One on the side where the TL badging is (on the opposite side of it, located on the inside of the trunk when it is closed), and the other on the other side of the trunk (directly to the left of the right handed rubber stopper). Once you see them, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Good luck guys.

I had the techy adjust mine with his bare hands in a matter of 10 seconds, and the rattle in the rear is completely gone.

Let me know if this helped you guys out at all.

take care.

ya well who would have thought that on a 40k+ car they would use rubber stoppers to secure the trunk lid? I would have figured that out, had this been a POS chrysler, but not on an Acura

Same issue on my 98 Accord V6 with spoiler. I used the same fix, and it cured it.

Trunk rattling is easy, but how do you get the license plate to stop rattling when the bass hits?

I cut a piece of heater hose, and then taped two round pieces of rubber to the back of my lp. Much cheaper than dynomat
