fight a tint ticket? NYC

this might belong in ramblings but i dunno. i received a tint ticket the other day $60 for the front and $60 for the back. and i thought to myself instead of paying that $120 is it possible to fight it? i know for sure if you have a broken tail light and get a ticket you can fight it simply with a receipt saying you replaced the bulb. and if you receive a ticket for not having or expired insurance card you can just mail in your current insurance card? im thinking i can get a forged receipt for a shady mechanic to say that i removed the tint. does anyone know if this will work?

if you plead not guilty and prove that you removed the tints you'll only have to pay the surcharge on each ticket.

Here in Los Angeles, you have to bring your car to the 'referee' to prove that you removed the tint. Good luck out there, bro.

true i actually looked it up like a week ago i was told by a cop (while i was getting a ticket) that they had just passed the law but in 1993 they passed it and in NY your not allowed to have any tints on passenger cars unless it came stock like some SUVs do. the only way to beat it is to take off you tint and bring the receipt to court as well as the car ticketed.

damn that sucks. in toronto we are allowed as dark as you want in the back and 35% in the front. I got a tint ticket long time ago when I had an accord with the fade away tint. It was black into mirror. I went back to the shop where I got my tint and asked them to write a letter stating I changed the tint to legal standards and then the ticket was dropped.

Bang

A shady mechanic- please post his number for all!

Why are you asking America instead of checking the back of your ticket to see requirments for proof of removal.

If you know something is wrong- be prepared to pay the piper

dang, that sucks. Like Blazin said, here in cali, you just get it checked off by a police station and you pay 10 bucks for the ticket. Gotta do mine soon. ahah.

What I did was I had a picture of my car before the tint job.

So when I used to get those very rare tint tickets I just went to court with some old photos of my car, and showed him pictures of my car in a pre-tint state, works everytime.... dismissed!

haha, i can't believe that worked. here in socal, you take it to a ref, once in a while, they get lazy so they don't come outside to check if the tint is still there or not. The last time I was there, the cop dind't come outside, so i was thinking maybe I coulda left my tint on. haha

i don't think that would matter. you don't have to know anything about tints to know if a car is tinted or not. the limit allowed is 70% which is basically nothing so anything 35% and below is noticeable.
