Ferman Acura wants $5000 M.I. FUKED?
I brought my car into the dealer today because my tranny is shot. The check engine light and TCS light are on and stay lit. So they gave me some story that I did not change the fluids enough or some ****. Well he ends up calling me and giving me an update. He tells me I should sit down, and that the tranny is "Shot to ****!" and that warantee is good for 50,000 miles and my car is sitting at 52,000 miles, so I am basicly paying full price. Well says the price of the tranny alone will be $4,500 plus the 2 control arms that are shot too are about $100 a peice. So with labor he says it will be about $5,000!!
So I was thinking of just trading in the mo fo. I have a craving to get a 2001 CL-S for some reason. $5000 is a bunch of bull ****, I am not paying that when the trade in value on a 99 TL with 52000 miles is only $15,500.
Any advice accepted.

Maybe I am missing something here. You did not explain how your tranny is acting other than the check engine and TCS light coming on. From my knowledge, the TCS can be turned on/off by pressing a button. Maybe you touched it by mistake. About your check engine light, have you gotten gas lately? If you have then that is why it is on cause the gas cap was not properly turned. It is supposed to be turned 3 clicks. It happened to my 99 TL once when I got gas. It took my car like ~8 days for the check engine light to go off. This is even stated in the manual.
BTW, if you write back and describe in detail how your tranny is acting up like shifting hard or can't shift, etc...then disregard everything I said above.
I'm just trying to point things out cause the dealer will try to get away with anything and everything.
If whatever I explained before fits your case then it is NOT your tranny. Tranny problems usually occur with shifting problems. But since you said nothing about shifting problems, I am trying to figure out the causes for the lights to come on.

relaxe, you are going to need to do some running and work, but Acura does agree they have a design flaw in the transmission and will replace it. You do need to go get your car from that dealership and take it to another one and explain to the new dealership that you have herd of people getting replacements up to 70k and well out of warranty and ask that they try to help aas it's only a little out of warranty. Also call Acura customer care and try to get it replaced though them, but they do know they have a transmission problem and should fix it. If you can't get it covered let me know as I'm working on a class action law suit for this same proplem.

I would also explain to them that you were considering buying a new CL and that if they wanted to discuss taking the car on trade and not killing you for the blown tranny (thier fault not yours) you would be willing to do buisness with them or you will just take the car to another dealership that wants your biz. Acura should replace the transmission for you no charge it's their design flaw

I've been reading on the TSBs that the local dealers can authorize warranty work outside of the normal warranty period, it's just up to them if they want to do it or not. I'm with emeraldTL and say that you should call Acura and see if they won't foot the bill. This should have been a recall, but as well all know through economics class, it is much cheaper for Acura to pay off a few lawsuits than to do a recall and replace the problem trannys in the first place.

But basically, the service is now at their discretion. The warranty is 50K, you are now 52k...ei OUT OF WARRANTY...there is no reason for you to even consider that the dealer should be doing any work for free anymore. I'm just trying to be logical here...So yes, as you've said..you're f*cked.

he is not F*&#ed he just needs to find a better dealership. Amir had acura and 2 dealers tell him off and that he had to pay for the repair. He found another dealership and they fixed it and were going to give him a loaner too. Just get the car and get out of that dealership. Try rich Chase in Lauderdale they are the best in florida I've herd

anyways, go to another dealer and tell them that this is a commom problem and that they should replaced for free.
If the engine light and TCS comes on, it means bad tranny, so they are right about that. The diagnostic should be torque converter malfuntion. Well it doesn't really mean your transmission is really bad. How does your car feel?? if it feels good to you, just do a tranny flush and tell them to reset the engine light. I would recomend doing the tranny flush with tire plus, is only like $100 including honda fluid, but they take everything out and put new fluid. unlike the dealer that would charge you $200+ and is not as good. Your Tranny takes 7.5 quarts at haul...or around 2 quarts at flush.
BTW my engine light and TCS came on the other day, but I had a tranny failure not long ago, so I know how it feels, I took it to the dealer and reseted the engine light, change fluid and its running better than ever.

when i was shown the dealers invoice... labor also cost them another 400 to a total of 1900 for their dealership... I became friends with the service manager that's why he showed me how much it was costing the dealership... also ask the service manager to try and see if the district manager would approve it or find out what days he visits the perticular dealership and show up on that day so you can talk to him...he has the power to do anything to keep customers happy

Yup, I second this. The decision comes from district level as to approved warrantee and out of warrantee work. If you can't talk his ear off call Acura's Customer care line, they should take care of you.

Hey I know how you feel. I got my tranny replaced at Ferman as well. They are the worst dealer around. Talk to the general manager and tell him how you feel. I am gonna do the same for all the **** they have done to my car. I had an accident about 6 months ago with the curb. They charged me for a new control arm but they just bent it back into place. Now my wheel is positioned back where it used to be when I had the accident. Warren is cool at times but he can be a total a** as well. Let me know whats goin on Ill see if I can help.

Listen to emeraldTL, he is right. Acura will step up to the plate, especially if you tell them of your knowledge of this issue. For that amount over the warranty, should step up and pay for it all. Do not bother speaking to the first person @ Acura customer service unless they help you. Ask for their manager, and put the pressure on, like " I have owned 6 Hondas with huge mileage with nary a problem and am deeply disappointed and will buy a Toyota next time" blah blah blah.
Good luck Pal.

Yeah, It feels like **** when I drive. It either slips slowly into gears, or "breaks yo neck!" when shifting. Somtimes there is a second delay when i punch it then it catches and jerks your head bad.
Ok, well frank and warren called (service managers) and said that they would pay for 75% of whatever the cost is. My salesman friend austin is trying to talk to some managers to to get me either a deal on a car or lower the price of the tranny. He hooks me up because I already bought 4 cars from him.
I'm looking at a 2001 CL-P non-nav, black, tan leather, fogs, 40,000 miles for like $23,000. does that sound like a decent price, I'm sure he will go a lot lower for me because this is my 5th acura from him.

I ended up buying a new car tonight. They said they would give me full value for the car and knock off a big buck out of the price of the car and forget the tranny if i bought a new one. So (dont yell) a 2003 CL-P. Eternal Blue on ebony leather. I thought it kicked ass. I always have missed the 2 door cars. Did not care for the type-s (price and insurance basicly).
