Factory Brakes

Hi fellas,

I need your help baaaddd! I have 49,910 miles on my 01 TL. I think I remember reading about a recall or something on the original brake pads and rotors. Mine are really starting to go bad but I was wondering if the dealer would replace mine since the car has sooo many miles on it and the warranty is about to go out. Any advice would be welcomed. I'm going to let the car sit this weekend until I get some help from you all.

It was a warped rotor problem on some TL/CL models.
Some dealers replaced the front pads & or rotors under warranty.
I had mine done on my 2000TL with 12,000 miles at that time.
I took it in for service told them about the problem they checked it out but I still had the problem at 15K service they replaced with new rotors & brake pads on the front. You have many miles on your car don't think thats going to help you because this is a normal wear item. With that many miles on your car they might look at you & laugh if you ask them. I had same problem at 43k miles, and two dealers near my area tried to charge $200 for rotor resurface and new brake pads.

I think it all depends on what type of problem you are having. If your rotors are actually warped, then damn right you get them replaced. I woundn't care if I had 49,999 on the odo, you are still under warranty. Look, they would screw you if you were one mile over so you take advantage of them as long as you are "still under warranty."-Nard

Guess what, I found a receipt from 01 when the car had about 12,000 on it and they made a comment that the pads needed replacing then but they didn't do it. I think I may have just found my ammunition.

Exactly. They tried to pull some crap on me telling me I had too many miles. The Technical Service Bulletin has to do with warped rotors. The pads that were originally put on the car caused the rotors to warp, which is not normal wear and tear.

There was no recall, just a TSB. And at your mileage, pads have to be replaced anyhow. It is not a warranty item. You may have more luck with rotors... but it really comes down to your dealer. If you are a regular there and drop some cash from time to time, they may be willing to go an extra mile and take care of everything for free.
