Exterior temp gauge reading

Just curious if anyone else's exterior temp reading is inaccurate or takes forever to get even close to an accurate reading? Mine seems to take about 10-15 min or more of driving before it gets even close to the actual temp outside. And usually it is a few degrees off. I have a ford truck that gives an accurate reading within a minute or two and is usually right on the money.

Mine is way off... Grrr.. It's off by 10 degrees! I checked it yesterday in Atlanta, it was saying 72.. it was like 85.

Is this a warranty thing? Perhaps they could re-calibrate it?

I did see a post stating that if you hold the reset and select buttons together for 10sec without the key in it will allow you to adjust the temp gauge. Mine might be off a few degrees.. not sure I'll mess with trying to adjust it. I just can't believe how long it takes to adjust to teh right temp. I drove around today for about 30 min or more before mine came up to even close to the right temp.

That's it... it allows you to adjust it +/- 3 degrees

mine has been consistently off by 6 degrees (to high) since i got the car. I never got around to bringing it in under warranty so I just subtract 6 degrees from whatever it reads.

the reason its off when you first start driving (especially if the car has been run) is because the temp sensor is in the grill area infront of the radiator, and takes some time of drivint to actually get a acurate reading.

Yeah, I understand that, but even after the car has sat overnight in a cool garage, it takes forever to get adjusted. I suppose it is just a poor design. I bet they have a very slow acting response to the gauge- probably thru a thermistor. This would keep the temp gauge from bouncing around all over the place when you are in stop and go traffic and all. This would also cause it to take a long time to get to the right temp.
I guess there are worse things to worry about- like our trannys. Like I mentioned, my truck is dead on accurate within a couple of minutes whether it has been just driven and/or baking in the sun.

mine is off too when the car is first started, but seems to be okay within a few minutes. I always assumed it was just because of the differential of being in the garage.

03CoupeV6 - where were you where it was 85 in the ATL yesterday?? It was sunny, but 85???

I'd rather have it that way than seeing the reading go up and down constantly, driving me insane.
