Extended Warranty - So many questions, chip in your thoughts!
At this time, I have 41k miles on my 2003 TL and the four years factory warranty goes through January’07. My only concern is the tranny issues I keep reading about and when I checked with Acura giving my VIN, I was told my series is not covered through the 7 yr/100k mile warranty.
In the process of shopping for extended warranties and I have so far come across a couple options:
1.Acura dealer who after a lot of bargaining gave me 7 yrs/100k miles for 1295$ or 8 yrs/100k miles for 1495$ (Bumper to bumper with 100$ deductable)
2.Warranty Direct (I have not idea how reliable this firm is) quotes as 8 yrs/100k miles for 1050$ (Big ticket items only) or 8 yrs/100k miles for 1600$ (Bumper to Bumper)
I am obviously leaning towards the Acura warranty, but would like to know if there are any suggestions you folks might have from your experiences. Thank you in advance for your time.

From experiences I've seen on here even the VIN that are not covered were still taken care without any money out of pocket from you. With any extended warranty you have to read it carefully because any little thing can void it, such as mods.

Why not wait until your basic warranty ends before buying the extended warranty? You would then be ahead of the game if your transmission fails before January.

I think it depends on the dealer. I have a '99 TL-P, and ran into a buncha issues several months ago where some coils went bad. While that mess was being worked out, they found out that I needed a new tranny cuz the one I had gotten installed about 10K miles prior was a peice of poop (not installed by Acura dealer btw). Not only did they point out that I needed a tranny (it had a funky shift from 1st to 2nd gear), they replaced it all for free.
At the time, I had ~107K miles. Needless to say, I was very surprised and impressed they took the initiative to be so helpful. However, I still think the service consultant was an idiot, but whatever. This occurred at Boston Acura.
This real life example goes to show that none of that extended warranty stuff is set in stone.
Good luck.

Wow! A free new tranny at 107k miles, dude you are so lucky! As for waiting on my existing warranty, that again is like a pickle. The closer you get or past your existing warranty, the extended warranty prices are to go up.
