Exhaust Tip Maintence
Hey guys i have a question about my exhaust tips, my tl is just about two years old and there is this black "gunk" that is accumulating on the bottom part of the exhaust tips(im assuming its from the moisture draining through the dirty exhaust pipe) It doesn't look good and i was wondering if anyone new how to clean it off or if i have to buy new tips where i could get those at.
Thanks in advance for the help!

if the black "gunk" is like black holes... more than likely they will not go away no matter what you put on... i put slightly larger stainless steel tips on and they stay pretty damnn clean without doing anything... spend hte 35-45$ and get the stainless steel aluminum tips... they really bring out the rear of the car

Drive fast & swerve
I did the same, put some slightly larger and square tips, looks similar to the exhaust on the new TL's and mine stay clean. I do use Mothers Mag & Aluminum Cleaner every so often to keep them shining. I recommend this, you'll be happy you did.

i bought some tips from Discount Auto Parts (pep boys should have too). You can get these Stainlesess for $7each and they just hook right onto your muffler (after you remove the stock tips)
But yeah, there is no way to clean that black stuff, you'll spend more in products to do an o.k. job than just buyin new sparklin' stainless tips.

Eagle One..... "Never Dull"... that's all I'll say... any one who has used this product will know what it can do. It can take the dullest and dirties exhaust tip and turn it into a mirror!! 5 bux at any auto store.

it's hard to convince me spending 50US plus shipping for a pair of crap steel on the web, while it costs about a dollar or two...
it would be amazing if i can find them in a local auto store, but it's kinda unlikely in Canada

Steel wool works like a charm!! That's how I clean mine, then I go over them with a metal polish.
I never tried the Neverdull on my tips, but that will probably work better.
Why would you buy new ones? If they're just dirty, clean them.

Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder, I suppose.
I got some Turtle wax Chrome Polish. you can remove them, take them to the kitchen sink and clean them. Use a soft scotch bright pad (brillo WILL scratch!). Works great. If you do it once, subsequent clean ups are a snap! I get the dirty rags from the wheels and give them a whipe. Any accumulated stuff just wipes right off. It really does help protect it.
And it cost about 4 bucks or so.

If you're lazy like me, you do the following - which works GREAT!
1. Take the tips off and spray them with a non-lye based oven cleaner (the fume free type).
2. Catch the football game - while you let them sit for a few hours.
3. Throw them in the dish washer after the game. When the cycle's done they will look brand new.
4. Reinstall them. I usually oil the screw to keep it from sticking when I put them back on. I guess you could use antiseize compond as well.
No muss, no fuss.

Lol my gf would kill me if I put tips in the dishwasher. She already bugs me about watching football. Congrats you've got a keeper.
Oh and fyi, spray some WD40 on the bolts before you remove them. They have a tendency to become rusted out. Some people have even had to cut them off when getting new tips.
