Exhaust systems

I have a 2002 Acura TL base and I was wondering what would be a good catback or axle back exhaust? I don't want anything to loud and flashy. Something deep sounding. I've been looking at the takeda exhaust but I'm not sure if I want to spend the 800 dollars for it. Thanks

Tsudo axleback exhaust is a good option, they look great, not too loud but better sounding that stock, not as expensive as a full catback system too.

The Tanabe is the way to go. It's made from higher quality materials and will fit better/last longer. Plus it's a full catback system which frees up more air flow.

Is the Tanabe the quietest aftermarket performance exhaust on the market?

Straight pipes don't belong on anything except a all out racecar. It will be anything far from quiet.

For what's available for the second gen, I believe it is the quietest catback. You might find an axleback that is quieter though.

Catback usually tune their systems to the magical limit of 89db by DOT standards .. That is way LOUDER than stock lvl of 60-65db.
TL Straight Pipes usually don't come out any louder while at Idle and almost the same loudness at WOT than an Aftermarket Catback.
I reckon my TL sound almost exactly like an APEX´i catback for the TL.

So if SOUND LEVEL is an issue to the OP I don't know why he would want a Catback on the first place! Any system will be louder than stock if not what its the point? Performance? Catbacks have the worst "HP per dollar" ratio for the mod.

Sound level really isn't that big of an issue. I want something that has a nice deep tone. I know it's going to be louder than stock because the stock exhaust is quieter than the engine itself.

If sound level isn't an issue then try Straight Pipes first! The J32 has a natural deep growl to it and straight pipes accentuate it perfectly.. At idle you wont find it bothersome like some "fartcannons" and at WOT it will actually muffle the intake sound sounds wayyyy badass.

Heres is my Thread about it: https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...-sound-919409/
HairyMonkey also chimed in with his video on the lower comments.

Only reason to use a Catback over Straight Pipes is if your State is very hard on Sound Level limits or your inspection actually has a muffler db test.. So when you do Straight Pipes do so AFTER the Y-Pipe on the Axle-Back.. Don't WELD anything!!!! Make your muffle shop install new flanges for the straight pipes so its totally reversible! That's how I did mine.. I can re-install the OEM mufflers just in case in less than 5 minutes.

I like the idea of straight pipes but I do live in a state where they do emmisions and such. But the idea of putting on flanges is a really good idea!

Any sources for stock replacement? I don't want to buy louder aftermarket and don't want to cough up for the high priced stainless cat backs
