Exhaust Question

I'm interested in getting the Magnaflow exhaust system to replace the stock one. But I'm thinking that if I just replace the mufflers/tips then it'd be the same anyway.... Right?

it probably wont sound a whole lot different because of the factory resonators. they muffel alot of sound. youmay get some more hp and better sound if you get all new custom piping and a new res

is it possible to just get the b-pipe from magnaflow? the comptech version is like 400 bucks for something that yields 1-2 hp.

I love my cat back Magnaflow setup. I've had it almost a year and it gets better sounding the more it wears in. I get compliments on it all the time; looks, attitude, sound and performance. Can't be beat.

I don't want to eliminate the silence of the factory setup. If I just change the mufflers, then the quiteness of the factory setup won't be compromised so much?

You can use the magnaflow cat back, but it will have to be modified. Since i have done a few setups for members on the board, and am the originator of the Magnaflow cat back, i will give you my advice.
You have a type S, the piping is good for an all motor application. My advice is get a magnaflow Y pipe, and have an exhaust shop fabricate the piping from the axel back. Then remove both resonators on the b pipe and add a 12-18 inch magnaflow resonator. You will thank me.

Also if you go with just the mufflers, it will sound deep, but not overly loud. Better than comptechs.

I love the sound of your exhaust. Would you be able to list all the parts required in order for this to work???

I know that you need two #14829.

What else do you need? I believe the Y Pipe part number is 10758, but I am unclear on the resonator. Is it the 22 incher that you need??? or is it the 12-18 inch???

Can you clear this up.

Thanks bigman!

he said it is not on the site.
u will have to call.

50.00 for the res
100.00 x 2 for mufflers
25.00 for y pipe.

and i think he said like 20.00 for shipping.

i figure 100.00 to 150.00 for install....maybe cheaper.

overall..not bad for a catback.

Not bad at all. Those prices are cheaper than the listed prices on their web site!! Why the discrepancy??

Now my question is... would the muffler shop cut out the stock resonator and weld the new one onto the existing pipes? Then make new pipes from the Y-pipe to the mufflers? I'm about to order right now.

Excellent. Thank you, Joseph.

It turns out that one of my friends' buddy is a licensed Magnaflow dealer, and I'll be getting parts through him. But I don't think it's going to be anything ridiculously cheap; just a few extra bucks' worth of savings. I'm just waiting to hear on the price of the mufflers, and I think I'll be ordering the parts tomorrow!

here is what i would do. it would save you money and more than likely sound better, and be better flow.
remove the big resonator. place a in 1 out 2 muffler in its location. (the muffer would act as the Y) then have the piping custom bent (dual) to the rear to a nice set of resonated tips

im contimplating getting rid of my comptechs to do this?

If I get a bigger resonator, what does it mean? Louder? Deeper? "Quiet"er?

Hate to jump into the thread so late and with my 3rd gen, but my mother has a 2nd gen with pretty much the same set up. I just put on a magnaflow system for the sound, and did the same for her but i did all the pipes myself to get a larger diameter. I replaced the resonator with a magnaflow one to cut the raspy sound and did the mufflers with magnaflow as well. Sounds awesome, tone is smooth and deep. Cant ask for much more without paying an arm and a leg for a tuner system.
