Er 1 message on radio
I did a search for this but came up empty...i have been getting an er1 code on my stereo when playing a cd (burned cd's) ..It happens when I toggle to another cd.....I am unable to play a cd or eject or load anything ..the readio works but thats it....It will reset itself eventually somehow when i restart the car but this doesnt always work....Its a big pain in the ass.. what is the cause...is it my system or the type of cd's I am using...is there a fix...a way to reset ....any help is appreciated..

Er1 Error message on radio
I had the same problem a couple of weeks after buying my used 2002 TL; I found out the hard way not to use cd's with labels on them. I took my car back to the dealership (since the salesman told me I could play burned cd's without a problem). They had my car for about a week and replaced the whole unit with a rebuilt unit. It's been in for a year now and I've had no new problems. If your car is not under warrenty and your going to have it repaired make sure to have the radio codes before removing the radio.

i just bought my wifes 02 TLS and it had the same error msg
i took the fuse out for a while and reinserted it---the cd changer ( in-dash) went thru it motion of getting the cd trays back in line or sumpin
you could do the battery too--BUT BUT BUT have ur navi code and radio codes very close

Interesting, because I had a radio replaced due to the error code and my dealer said don't play burned CD's becuase they screw up the unit. Funny thing is my friend as a Infinity G35 and had his radio replaced and the dealer told him the same thing. His car is about 2 years old, mine is a 03 TL-S. So is there something about the older radio units where they dont like burned cd's in older radios??

its not something thats different about the CD itself, its that some of the lasers have a hard time reading the cd itself. TheTL had the problem playing/reading them until the 6 disk indash changer came out.

Our head units are very picky as to burned CDs. I would occasionally get the "Er1" show up on the screen ... it was caused once due to a burned CD (the factory HU does not like CDs burned beyond 640megs). Secondly, condensation will cause read errors (legit discs or burned discs). I normally pop a disc out if it has moisture on it.
Otherwise, no problems reading CDs (burned or legit) in the 5 years of ownership of my car.
