Post Engine oil

I heard from some guy the other day that there little metal particle that comes off during the break in period. So he recommends me to change my oil after about 1500 miles or 2500 km. What he meant was that these little thingings will harm the engine if it stays in the engine oil, so if u change oil during this period u will get rid of them( I think that's what he meant ). I mean has any of u heard of this?
Is that true? and should I do that ?

My dealer recommended leaving the factory oil in for the first 3 months/3750 miles (whichever came first). Perhaps you should check with your Service Department to confirm that.

thats why there is an oil filter...but yea when you do your first first and second oil change, you will see small particles of metal when you take out the oil filter...

In order for you're engine to properly break in you must leave that oil in the car. Those little particles that you see are from the normal break in wear. I read someplace that changing you're oil before the breakin period actually slows down the break in cycle.

Synthetic oil should only be used after the breakin period has ended

On an aside note, is it recommended that a synthetic 5W20 be used over a conventional oil? The owner's manual said that a synthetic can be used but makes no endorsement other than to follow the 'regular' maintenance interval...

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

YES! Change oil at the 3750 mileage. If you use synthetic at that time, it can take a little longer for the break-in period. I did this, and it seam to take alot longer to achieve max gas mileage, horsepower, etc. However, I'm sure that this engine will be running 100's of thousand miles later. (I won't see it probably. I'll have traded it in )

Change the oil according to your owners manual. It was written by the people that built your car and they do know when the oil should be changed. Oil filters are changed at the same time and they are supposed to pick up any wear particles in the oil.

Do not use synthetic oil as a breakin oil since it will retard the break in process. Please do use it after the break in period. The synthetics are slippier than petro oils and they will slow down the process.

A break in period is normally over when the oil consumption rate stabilizes. Todays ring technology allows most break ins to be completed by 1500 miles, but it wouldn't hurt to go a few miles further.

Look at the owners manual. The break in fluid for the new engines is specifically formulated and must run longer than one would conventionally leave oil in. CHANGING IT EARLY COULD INVALIDATE THE WARANTEE. My dealer has notices up all over the place warning not to change it earlier!
