My dad was driving on the freeway at about 75 in auto mode (4th gear I figure) and suddenly the tach jumped upto 6000 RPMs and the engine light came on. The car only has 6000 miles on it.

Anyone had this happen? The dealer came out and towed it. They said they couldn't find anything so it may have just be a sparkplug misfire. Can that really cause the revs to jump so high?

I'm just wondering if this could bethe first indication of a tranny issue or something else serious. The car is well under warrenty so if it needs to be fixed I'd like to get it done.

It happened when I was driving freeway the other day. I don't remember about RPM jumping up but Engine Check light came on and it was code P0301 Misfire. Reset it, no problem since than.
