I just picked up a 2003 TLS-Navi on Thursday and traded in my 1999-Navi.

When standing still at a traffic light or sitting parked in my garage the engine seems much louder at idle than my 1999. Anyone else noticing the engine being loud at idle from inside the car?

In my 1999, it was virtually silent.

Oddly enough, the 2003 is quieter on the road.

I've never driven or been in 99 TL, but I think the type-S does have rougher idle than most other entry luxury models (ES300, I35). This did bother me too when I first picked up the car but I've gotten used to it...

u mean when the fans start going crazy???? it gets pretty loud

Yes, the Type S has a performance exhaust. You can't hear it during normal cruise after about 40 mph though and the TL-S becomes a very quiet car...

the TL-s does have a louder idle than most of cars in the same class. i use to drive a I30.. and that sucker was a lot quieter. and currently we have an es300.. and that is a lot .. i mean a lot quieter than the TL-s. but once u start driving.. u shouldn't hear it much.. unless u are flooring it.

It could be fans, I am not sure. Jsut real loud at idle after starting and when stopped and the radio is off. Very strange.

The car definitely gets more quiet as I increase my speed. Most odd!
